Hood Hinges
 
Hi, not sure if this I should ask this in here but here goes. Im having problems figuring out my hood hinge angles. No matter what way I weld the brackets up im hitting somewhere. It looks like I need to push the hood back more as its lifting. I was wondering if someone could take a couple pictures of their hood hinge mounting hopefully with the hood closed and open. I know all kits are different... But at this point anything will help. Any informatin would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The further forward and closer to the outer skin you can position the hinge pivot, the more clearance you'll maintain as the hood is opened.

What kit do you have? If you have a support bar close to the front of the hood opening, my original style hinges would probably work fine on your hood. In any case, the hinge point is critical in how well the hood opens and the hinges clear obstacles while opening.

Mike, My hood hit the body in front of the right hood hinge when opened or closed. I messed around changing the "J" shaped bracket always with the same results. NFG. My pivot brackets were glassed in at the factory so I thought they were right. Not so. Did some cad mockups at work and found out that if you move the pivot forward (as strictlypersonl said) you gain more clearance. So I made some stuff to move the pivot point forward and it works perfect. I can't remember how much but it was like 3/8 or so.
Now it open with the same gap all the way accross. Hope this helps, Russ

Hi there, thank you very much for the suggestions, Ill reweld the bracket as close to the front of the hood as I can. Think I may have 1/4-3/8ths of an inche i can move it. The kit I am working with is a body from D&D and a frame from Midstates, it has been a real pain and basically is like building from scratch since I chopped up the frame so many times that it may have been easier just to build one, or deal with one whole kit... But there is no fun in that... Again thank you very much Ive been stuggling with the hood for a good week now. Ill move it forward and let you guys know.

Mike, I think you misread the fix. moving where it mounts to the hood will NOT fix the problem. You have to move the pivot point under the front of the body forward. Since mine was glassed in at the factory I made a bracket that bolts to their bracket to move the pivot forward. Good luck, Russ

IF the vertical drop of the hinge arms is less then the distance to the edge of the body...its going to hit. If the pivot point is 3 1/2 incehs from the edge of the body and you have a 4 inch drop on the hinge arm....it should clear with all kinds of room.
