" Notice: 1964 AC Cobra COB 6036 "
The following appeared in the advertising section of the March edition of MotorSport, page 142. The 1/2 page ad did not include any identification as to who placed the ad.
" Notice: 1964 AC Cobra COB 6036 " " In 1983 the original 1964 AC Cobra COB 6036 was damaged by fire. It was restored to the highest standard by Brian Angliss using a substantial number of original key parts including the engine, transmission, lower wishbone and uprights. This AC Cobra has a full registration history and accompanying historic documentation, all of which are available on request from the AC Register or the Shelby American Register. Unfortunately there has been available for sale a 1964 AC Cobra chassis no. COB 6036, incorrectly advertised worldwide as an original " New Build ". This particular car was built in 2003 incorporating a restructured chassis using the remnants of the original chassis and a limited number of restored original parts. These parts were recovered from parts discarded during the restoration of the original car. This car is therefore classified as a " Replica " Please do not confuse the original restored AC Cobra 6036 with the replica if you are considering investigating or purchasing either car " Appears, from the wording of the ad,there are two Cobras with chassis no. COB 6036 Anyone know the background of the controversy or other details ? |
