Trick FE motor mounts ?
What brands are out there for trick, high quality motor mounts for the FE's ?
Billet or steel with vibration rubber or urethane. They would have to be the stock height or lower. |
i got a set from crites, look like oem but they are heftier, thicker steel rubberized. they sell them for galaxies and mustangs. 4 years haven't broke one yet....

Not too sure how the mustang/cougar motor mounts compare to the cobra ones, but if they're close, maybe you could convice TCP to make a chassis bracket for the cobra.

the chassis to the mount isn't the problem its the rubberized mount and engine plate that is a bit whimpy. while the total performance mounts look nice the motor plates and mount don't seem to offer any extra meat, maybe less than factory mounts. i shopped mounts 4 years ago when i went from a 351C to the 427 and the crites mount won me over. a broken motor mount can mean a couple thousand in body work.....

Undy- yep, those are what I have as well.
FWB- I couldn't find what we need. What link on the site shows them ? jwoodard (how ya doin buddy)and Rodger- Now those look awesome. The adjust ability and being billet is great. With my cam profile and 110 lobe separation, it really shakes my car and side pipes, and with the side oiler I plan on building with possibly 108 sep., I'm sure it will make it worse. Maybe with these, it will help. How is your comparison ? But damn,..Almost $400 w shipping,.....wow ! :eek: Maybe we could get them cheaper with one of my "Group Buys" ;) 67- I like them with the urethane bushings. I may call them about your idea for cobras. ng- I don't know why I did not think about Tom's. Thanks. |
My votes for the Kirkham mounts. Although I suspect they are thicker than the standard mounts.

I can't go any thicker, my air cleaner top just barely touches the hood. But, with my new motor, I'll be selling the Vic Jr. intake for the RPM intake, which is lower in height. Maybe then theirs would work.

Which every mount material you go with---
FUNFER2 Kevin Match all 3 mounts up with the same material. If not you can have some drive line problems. I have to original rubber ones in my car with the bolt modification that ERA does. because of location I used an Allen headed bolts as limiters. Trans mount is also rubber. I had a poly one and it split from the stupid 1/4 mile racing. I was lucky to not break the trans housing. You can always add a torque strap or rod limiter to the motor down the road. They work better than the chain setup from 30 years ago with a turn buckel. Try and mount the limiter in the center of the motor to control roll. It pivets if you use the front corner method and have seen some heads damaged. Rick L.

Kevin, any mount other than a direct replacement for ours (65 thru 68 full size FE Ford/Lincoln/Mercury) is going to require some fabrication, probably to include some frame welding too. Frame and motor mount pedestal variances between MFRs pretty much eliminates any "bolt in" solutions that I've found. Repositioning everything to get engine ride height/fore 'n aft/ port 'n starboard etc could also be a PITA.
A solid mount might not be so bad. If you do that you now can solidly bolt the rear of you sidepipes to the frame. Viola, no more busted side pipes and bracketry ... nothing's capable of moving! So we get a little more NHV.. No biggie. Part of the Cobra's mystique is ... NHV (Noise/harshness/vibration). I still from time to time scout around for some Polyurethane repops of ours.. lemme know if you find something Dave |
