Rollers/Kits you would like to see produced...
Lord knows I love my Cobra. But there are a few other "period/era" cars that I would absolutely beg, borrow or steal to own. The problem is they are either extremely rare or are protected by a legion of attorneys.
Here are the two that consistently enter my mind. 1958 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa - Drop dead gorgeous sexy curves all wrapped in a "catch me if you can" coat of mile deep red. And the sound of that Weber'd V-12 is simply sensational. http://www.automotoportal.com/media/...70821004.8.jpg 1958 Sting Ray Racer - Peter Brock's original sketch was the foundation for this creation and what would become the C2 Corvette (the "mid year" models). Yeah, I know it's a "Chebby", but I busted my first knuckles working on GM products and I still drive a Z06 daily today. This car truly has it all: unbelievable styling, side pipes, a high revving V-8, etc. Did I say it is drop dead gorgeous? Sorry to disagree Dean-but purely for practical reasons.
Splash a a 250 and greet 1000 F'company lawyers. Find a contemporary 12 that looks and sounds within a lightyear of that one. Manage to surmount the above-then register it. Windshield? Defroster? Engine year/emissions h'ware? Open pipes? Yada yada. Sting Ray- similar roadblocks but at least there are accurate donor parts extant. If I'm totally wrong and you accomplish those cars, think of the hammerheads that will buy them and install radios, armrests, seat heaters, cupholders AND DUAL ROLLBARS to go to the country club.:CRY: Sorry to dampen your parade...:JEKYLHYDE |
Body plug/ molds for that Ferrari were for sale on Ebay last week. The Corvette could be made by buyin' a Vette and customizing it. Build one for yourself, no problem, try to make kits/rollers, be prepared for litigation, both are copywrited designs.

Oh, this is simply a dream thread and I agree 100% with your assessment. Powering the Ferrari is unobtanium unless you shoehorn a later model BMW V-12 or something like that. The Chevy is totally buildable if you stretch the front frame and have tremendous glassing skills (again, only said skills and time limits me from attempting one).
If I ever hit the Lotto I'll buy the roughest '63 I can find and hire someone to start hacking. :LOL: -Dean |

Seems like the V-12 is the hardest part to solve. If someone can just build a replica of that, there are multiple Ferrari's that would be great kits. Here is my partial list in order of interest:

Speaking of the Aston Martin DB5, which I agree is a beautifull design...... I'm getting a "little" off topic here, but; I was watching the ALMS race at Sebring the other day and noticed for the first time that the AM entry has the # 007. Now that's cool.

Easy: I'll put money down NOW on a well-engineered Maserati Tipo 61.
("Well engineered" to me would be ERA style: looks original, space frame and all, everywhere you can see it; improved in strength and safety everywhere you can't.) Not sure what engine to build it around - maybe a Ford 2L. Also not sure whether to preserve the deDion rear end or go with a more modern modular IRS. But it has to be lightweight and capture the shape and details EXACTLY. (I'm aware of the Dio or whatever it's called this week... reminds me of the Cobra replicas ca. 1980, the era of "close enough" crap.) |

Beck no longer makes Lister-Corvettes.
There is ONE manufacturer in Brazil or Mexico or something. I'd have to google it all over again. I read a SPF Cobra and Beck-Lister comparison in Road&Track (or was is Car&Driver?). The Beck-Lister won hands down in acceleration and handling. I still think the Lister-Corvette is one of the coolest looking track-monsters around. My introduction to the Lister-Corvette came at the Monterey Historic Auto Races. I heard this GNARLY engine fire up, and I bee-lined to go see what was making all the noise. A black Lister-Corvette was rolling out for the event. The pavement was vibrating underneath my feet. Sensational. I'll have to stick with my Cobra, for now. But if I add something to the stable, the first on my list is a Lister-Corvette (replica). Yeah, I'd paint that one bad-ass black, too. DD |
Dean: Yeah, a couple of fine machines. The closest I've come is that I bought "Sounds of Sebring 1958" back in the day. Time to put that platter back on the turntable. One more thing, my first new car was a '64 Corvette convertible. Loaded with 365 HP, knock-off wheels, 4-speed, both tops, etc. Black on black, of course! Rich

I realize a few offer the Cobra FIA but the price point is really up there on Shelby's CSX7000 and Kirkham's much, much more than their 427 cars. Like to see some more offerings like the High Tech model years ago...
