Titling in nj
 
Is there any easy way to title a contemporary classic in NJ?
Are you required to have bumper and front license plate bracket?
Are the emission standards based on the year of the motor or will it be the year in which you are trying to receive the title in? Any help would be appreciated. need any and all info on even starting the process

Is this a fresh build or is the car already titled in another state? If the car is already titled elsewhere, NJ will take the title from the other state at face and swap it for their own. The rest is a moot point until you respond to this question, after that I can answer the rest.

The car is a fresh build and has not been titled in another state. I do have relatives in VA, PA, DC, MASS.

Call the NJ DMV office in Trenton and ask for the "kit car package", follow it.........Emissions are based on the year of the block, yes you will need a front plate mount (not that you will have plates yet so fab something simple to show them), no you do not need full bumpers.....Morristown is the only inspection station you'll want to go to for your initial enhanced safety inspection.....Make sure you have all of your receipts in order along with your original MSO/MCO........The inspection will go just fine........

I know this may sound stupid but what is mso/mco. I bought the car from the second owner, I have recipts from the guy I bought the car from hopefully that is enough? I also have all my recipts from all the parts I bought. Morristown should work fine I have had altered suspension vehicles and had to go through stability test. Hopefully it is not the typical BS the state puts you through, where they turn you away even if everthing is perfect.

MSO= Manufacturers Certificate of Origin, if you do not have this for your chassis you will need to contact the person you bought the car from to see if he(she) has one. They will need to sign it over to you and furnish you with a notarized "bill of sale". Without either of these documents you do not legally own what is currently sitting in your garage and NJ may or may not give you a tough time about it.
