Restored to 'Barn Find' condition!
Interesting idea, wish I had thought of it. Most of you will recognize the name Tom Cotter from his books “Cobra in the Barn” and “Hemi in the Barn”.
Lately there seems to be a lot of interest in vintage cars that are in “Barn Find” condition. Even Pebble Beach has a category for Survivor Class. Since there are only so many cars in that condition, leave it to someone to start a business creating barn find cars. I just learned that Tom Cotter has started such a business. He will take your “restored” car and convert it to a barn find. When finished it will appear to have just left a 20- or 40-year storage facility complete with spider webs and appropriate layers of dirt. I learned about his new business while at the Amelia Concours. I believe the attached picture is one of his recent creations, although he nor anyone else would admit it. I want to find out more about the process. If viable, maybe there’s room for more than one company providing this service. Has anyone here heard more about this “de-restoration” process? http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4061/...8f678b41_o.jpg |
Give your car to me i can make it look "USED" in a week or so.......
|
Me too. Just ask Excaliber. Ron  |
Well this is an interesting thread. So we now we swing from one side of the road, "over restored" to the other side "survivor restored". :)
I'm somewhere in the middle with mine, it has enough patina, scars and such that I'm not afraid to DRIVE IT! I've thought about getting some new paint, but the car is just to much fun as it sits. I'd be WAY to paranoid with fresh paint, and like me, the car cleans up pretty good in the end. |
I hope we don't start seeing Rat Rod Cobras. Fake rust on the (aluminum) body, a real pistol welded to the end of the shifter, C-clamps holding on the wind wings ..........:(
|
Any more pics of these supposed de-restored cars?
|
I have been doing this procedure to my cars for years now, buy them nicely done, then use and abuse them haha good one
Did they start that business today;) |
I have a few spiders in my garage I can mail you that produce great looking webs in no time.
|
Wow, you just gave me an epiphany with this thread!
Instead of touching up all my rock chips with matching red paint, I'm going to start touching them up with a shade of raw aluminum paint. Over time people will ask what the little paint flecs are, then realize that it's a freakin' real one! :3DSMILE: |
Remember guys, it's April 1.
|
I don’t really care what today’s date is I can sweep you up a ton of dust and I have a very rusted piece of metal that I could grind a large pile of rust from, just need your mailing address.

One of the CACC members has ridden in this car 1-2 years ago. I think it actually was a real barn find, not a "created" one.

The previous year he let me take his 427 ( CSX3299) out for a spin which handled very similarly to a CSX-4000.Both were a thrill to drive and hopefully I will be able to drive them again this summer. |
And what is todays date?...................
|
Well I did receive a number of emails with more information. As I said I was not sure that the car at Amelia was one of the de-restored car, perhaps it is not one of them.
I did receive what was described as a spy shot of an employee of the Barnfind company working on a Shelby. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4026/...0567b5f2ed.jpg |

Are you forgetting the AC with the eyebrows over the wheel wells?
|
That last pic seems a little strange. Does that say away katrina on the side? Maybe that guy is just washing out his car from katrina debris... funny though lol.
|
..something about Peter Brock hoarding the 7th Coupe all these years. I seem to remember that little ditty. :)
