Tonneau cover
Hi
I recently purchased my EM cobra and am looking to have a tonneau cover made for it. Since I am new to this type of car is there a standard for these tops? Should they have pockets for the steering wheels and roll bars? Or is it OK to go around the roll bars? I have seen pics of both types. My car already has snaps installed on the body behond the roll bars and along the top of the dash area. Any information would be appreciated. I am meeting a guy Wednesday evening to get an estimate. Should it be a one piece or should it have a zipper? Thanks |
Most have a "pocket" to go over the steering wheel. All the ones I've seen for cars with rollbars, have been cut out around the bars with velcro closings. Mine is cutout around the rollbar and I've had for almost 3 years. It has held up well and the velcro closures around the rollbar tubes are tight enough to have kept out any weather I've encountered when the interior was covered. I've seen both zippered and zipperless covers, probably depends on the make of the cover.

If it was me, I'd go with a pocket for the steering wheel and go around the roll bar. Have them sew in a strip of Velcro to seal up around the roll bar.
Since your car already has snaps, fit it to those. Definitely add a zipper down the moddle. That way you can leave 1/2 zipped up if you aren't carrying a passenger. |

What about the snaps, are they normally on the door also or can that be avoided? I would prefer not having any but I might hav eot have one if I run a straight line with the cover from the back deck.

Mine doesnt have snaps on the doors themselves. only the back and 3 snaps on the front dash

I've had both types in two different Cobras, not counting a few other English rides as well.
I prefer to go around NOT over the roll bar. NO snaps on the doors either! Gotta have a zipper down the middle and a pocket for the steering wheel. ERA has it spot on with their design. I've checked out the Snapless cover, it's not a bad idea. My take on it is it folds up small and goes on quick and very easy. So, put it in the trunk and if your suddenly caught in a shower (at a car show or shopping or a gathering of the clan) it's great quick and easy almost "instant" coverage. But I like to drive with my cover on, sometimes, so if I could only have one, gimme snaps and a real cover. |
I too enjoy the tonneau with Zipper,just open drivers side while driving,close it up quickly when parked for a day or overnight.No snaps on the doors.

I have the tonneau from EM.
It has a pocket for the steering wheel, pocket for the roll bar and studs (snaps) around the roll bar on the body. No studs on the door (my decision) and I love it. Finally it has a zipper down the middle. |
Thanks for all the relpies. I am not gonig to put snaps on the doors, now I just have to pick out material. The guy I am using doesn't have a great selection. Unfortunately I am heading out for training for a week so it will have to wait. I wish I could pick out the material and order it so it might be at home when I get back.
