Danish cobra owner killed in accident
http://www.sn.dk/49-aarig-mand-draeb.../57556?image=1
According to widness he lost control of the car and it flipped several times |
Superformance?
|
It looks like a SPF. It's hard to believe that all that damage came from just a rollover in that flat section of road. I would guess that the car was going nearly end-over-end from going out of control at a very high rate of speed.
|
Looks like a long wheelbase car, bottom door edge does not resemble a SPF, regardless, too bad someone lost their life.
|
End over end...I don't know the gas tank looks untouched.
|
Thoughts and prayers to his family.
The frame and the routing of the battery cable look correct for a SPF. |
|
It was a SPF - with a Roush 427R. I drowe it last fall when it was up for sale
The guy was known to be speeding - reckless driving, and as such is was no surprise. Pure luck he only killed himself and not innocent people. Sorry to sound "hard" - but he had it comming. |
The roll bar looks bent but, it held up. I wonder if had hadn't have been thrown out, if he would have survived ?
I feel for all the loved ones. This is a perfect example,.... of what happens when you drive recklessly. |
Cobra owner killed
Don't want to lessen his family's loss. But as a Paramedic......Safety Belts, safety belts, safety belts. They are seat belts when you sit on them and safety belts when you use them. I've seen too many crashes where survival would have been possibility with their use.
Thanks for letting me vent. I hate telling the family that we did everything that was possible but the outcome wasn't successful. Fred Siewert EMT Paramedic Cobra Owner Reedsport, Oregon |

I just learned that police investigation concluded that the rear suspension broke while overtaking two cars - causing the car to spin...
don't know if it is correct, but reminds me to inspect tires every time I drive... |

Maybe lost in translation, do they mean he lost traction as in wheel spin? |

Glad to have bmw %/ (ups - don't shoot me :JEKYLHYDE ) |
It's possible he was thrown out even with the belts on. If the belts aren't tight and properply placed an end over end might be enough to dislodge you anyway. Just a thought,,, I know when I'm racing I tighten the straps to the point of being uncomfortable, plus I run a five point, not the typical four point.
Something like a sudden breakage of an axle would cause the car to veer sharply to one side. A broken axle/CV joint would not be easy to see in the pics. |
What a shame. I see from the photo that the speed limit is 60 KPH...about 40 MPH. Looks to me like that was NOT a 40 MPH crash. Nevertheless it is a tragedy. Heartfelt sympathies to his family.

Broken CVC joint could be hard to see, but the wheels appear to be in a correct attitude per the collision? Ernie is right, a violent collision such as this can allow a person to come out of a four point harness, IF you have a crotch strap please use it. Also if your roll-bar just slides together at the third leg, look at one of the pictures, the roll bar is bent and coming apart....please bolt your down-leg where it joins the Hoop. Amazing how much stronger the entire roll bar is when the Hoop and the down-leg are bolted together. (This may have been bolted and the violent impact(s) sheared the bolt allowing the hoop to bend?) Complete and total sympathy and prayers for his family. I've had to knock on too many doors in this type of incidence. Please remember these photo's...don't become a CC headline! |
I remember seeing this post in April when it first came out. I wondered then if it was a front ball joint that broke not just speed. I guess it could have broken off in the accident itself though.
DV, Do you bolt the down tube through with a bolt and a nut (size/grade)? Is there a way to be secure and also look good? I have made the frame bracket for the down tube so it is structurally sound but where the down tube slides onto the hoop is still a weak link. |
Terry,
Sent you a PM. Dv |
I lost a simple bolt and bushing on a rear A arm of my Superformance on the freeway. I was going relatively slow (60?) because something felt loose. Let me tell you - when it let go, it was all I could do to wrestle it to the shoulder without going sideways. Felt like the entire rear end had broken loose from the frame and was steering the car like the tiller on a boat. If this poor guy had something simple like that let go at, say 100 while passing - it would be all she wrote - seat belt or no seat belt.
Hard to prepare for dumb bad luck. |
