Need new carpet-What's good and where to get it?

I will be putting new carpet in this summer and i was wondering what kind to use? Loop pile, cut pile, has backing or not, glued in -what type of glue? I'm sure there's someone that has some pointers on how to.

I don't think there is any one specific way to go on carpet. If your not a purist, then anything goes.

The carpet sold at upholstery shops for cars usually has a rubber/flexible backing to make it easy to install and conform to shapes. But it can come apart much quicker than house carpeting under normal use; especially where your heels rest. Carpet pads can be used as a sacrificial carpet to eliminate that problem.

Use artificial fabrics to stand up to rain and color fading. Wool is probably a bad idea.

Cut loop is traditional. If you want to be different, then use loop pile.

I put mine in without and hems that are traditional on Cobra carpeting. I like the one-piece look.

I put a felt underlayment down first and glued it lightly using spray contact cement.

Thanks Paul
About how many yards should it take to do the job? The carpet i'm looking at is:

Luxury Pile Auto Carpet - Black
72" Wide/100% Olefin Fibers
Latex Backing
12 oz./sq. yd.
UV & Mildew Resistant

I think 12' long would be enough and I want to get it sewed at the seams for the one piece look.

It depends upon what you are carpeting; floor, back?, trunk?

Measure all the pieces and draw it out to scale on a sheet of paper. See what fits on 72". Keep in mind that you want all the 'grain' going the same way for a uniform look.
