Spark Plug Wires???

I've noticed my engine running a little rough. Thought it could have been bad gas or carb. flushed the tank changed the filter and cleaned the carb. Ran fine for a while on some short trips. Had the car out this weekend and started the rough idle again almost to the point of stalling. Used an ohm meter to check each wire. Found 3 wires that read around .54 ohms. The rest read anywhere depending upon the length of plug wire was between .65 and .82+/- Does this sound like the problem of rough running and idle. Plug wires age ???? Original to the car and I have had it 3 years. Am I on the right track? The engine is a 351w. THANKS!

I had a similar problem on my 351 and it was just one of the wires that had touched a header and had burned just enough of the insulation that when the vibration brought it close enough, it would arc to the header. Changed the wires and everything was great.

It seems like some people can put on a set of plug wires and run them "forever" with no problems. I haven't been so lucky. For whatever reason, mine never last more than 5-8000 miles before I start getting a missfire. I literally have to change them every year. I've tried MSD, Taylormade and now Moroso Blue Max wires. I've had the best luck with the Blue Max wires but I'm currently on my second set of those.

Measuring the resistance of plug wires is tricky. You think you're getting one reading but if you move or bend the wire you might get a different reading.

In any case, if you've had them for 3 years it can't hurt to change them to see if it solves your problem.
