Bad taste extends to cars too

Bad taste avitars are one thing but this is off the map. Taken on Pacific Coast Highway with my iPhone. Just couldn't resist. I remember these well, back then everything else looked like a colored box and then there was this family. Had to have an alien connection of some kind.

It takes a great self-image to drive that car :)
Had a beater car almost that bad years ago. The best part was, it was pretty easy to meet girls with. Because they look at the driver and not as much the car. lol Maybe they just wanted to know what kind of mo-ron would drive such an ugly car? |
I think that is a 1962 Valiant. The two door is not that bad to look at. I saw one at a show where a guy had put a hemi in it. It was tubbed too. Those cars back then had alot of style. My favorite was the 1960 Ford Sunliner and the 63 1/2 Galaxie 500.

Time flies... that Valiant was a car I learned to drive a manual trans on .... and was my brother's 2nd car! The 225 slant 6 was a great reilable engine. It was ugly then and remains so 48 years later.

i also learned how to drive in a valian slant 6 the only problem with the car was the distrib was on the side of the block so when you through a deep puddle ot would stall out.:CRY:

I had a friend who had a two door Vailant, similar to the one in the picture posted, and it was not to be trifiled with. Him, myself, and one other kid were always racing against each other (track, no street...it was good to have a Dad who worked the track).
Between my Mustang, his Valiant, and the others friends Camaro, we had a ton of fun and spent every spare penny we earned on those cars. We even helped each other build/rebuild the engines. It was a hoot. |
You know some cars are so ugly their cute,,,, this is not one of those. :)

As a old Chrysler muscle car/sort of guy I can say the following with some reserved confindance; we loved those butt ugly old Chrysler cars that predated the slick1966/7 cars that went into production. The local Chrysler guys used to laugh a lot about the uglier the better. The later cars did however get one thing right. The 440 engine was to later become "standard fair" regarding engine swaps into those early cars. These cars/engine swaps at that time were cheap (junkyards were full of em), very fast, very stout and were faster than most of the factory iron that the other guys were making payments on. The lack of installment payments also let us buy, sell, trade, parts & cars almost at will. I can't stress enough that at this time these cars were cheap,cheap,cheap, old cop cars could be had. (did I mention cheap?)
In spite of this in 1968 I joined the prevailing club. I ordered a 1968GTX convertible with the hemi engine option. Kept it for over 12 years, pulled the engine & sold it for $800. :CRY::eek::JEKYLHYDE Ron Shockley |

The 225 slant sixes were 1966 and newer. The 198 was from 1970-1974. The valiant pictured was a 170 slant six and was made from 1960-69. Great engines but were nothing compared to the 273 HP. |
A friend and I drove a slant 6 Valiant from Montreal to LA and back in 1965 on the old Route 66. We went through some water in Detroit and the engine stopped (Chrysler products really loved to stop in the rain). New plug wires and some other stuff got us back on the road a few hours later.
We stayed one extra day so we basically had to drive back non-stop. We made it from LA to our homes outside Montreal in 53 1/2 hours. Oh, did I mention that I got a speeding ticket in Grants, NM at 5:00AM Sunday morning? No problem, the court house was open accepting bonds. :eek::( Back on the road again after a very brief stop to post a $10 bond. Wayne |

It's nothing w/o the fake tire hump on the trunk! Then you have an "Imperial" Valiant. :)

It's ugly alright, and I don't think it's so ugly it's cute, but it does have some appeal in its ugliness somehow. It repesents something about the era.
However, the Pacer has nothing going for it. |
I owned and drove a 61 Valiant back in 1970 when I was in Navy "A" school in Great Lakes. It had a push-button auto on the dash. It was sort of a neat car, slant six and everything.
