GPS Speedo

Here's a question. With limited dash visuals, do any of you guys use a GPS for your speedo?

Ralphy, Go to www.speedhut.com and check out the gps speedo they have. Using anything else would be crazy in my opinoin. I bought a set of gauges for my car from them with the GPS speedo.

0-60
1/4 mile and speed
... - and by GPS and not stop watch

Interesting answers, however I was asking about using a Garmin,etc..., on top of the dash.

I have taken to always using the speedo function as our limits are posted in kilometers per hr. (speedo in MPH):(
I found while cruising the variable speed limits in many areas just were too distracting constantly doing the mental conversion from MPH to KPH.
This practice is more accurate & allows one to enjoy driving rather than concentrating on math.

My dash speedo is not accurate and I stuck my Garmin GPS on the windshield and selected the trip screen. It worked great. It also shows your max speed. It really is amazing how quickly these Cobras get to 100 MPH! I have plans to replace the speedo cable this winter. My gearing is pretty simple in 5th. 2,000 RPM is 55 MPH, then every 200 RPMs is another 5 MPH, making 2,600 RPM about 70 MPH.

I used my GPS to calibrate my speedo, then took it out.

I use a Garmin, when traveling, for both directions and speed.
Ummm, I do recommend clearing the top speed memory when your wife is not around......... says the voice of experience.

Do you guys with GPS speedos (i.e. speedhut) have any issues with tunnels?

I have been looking at these, but we have speed cameras in tunnels in Australia so need to have a working speedo. My GPS Navigator doesnt work in tunnels, any difference with the gauges?

This link above is my build. Let me know if anyone needs more info. One thing I can say was Speedhut was wonderful to work with! Getting all this customization was a breeze!

Regarding Garmin.... I'd use for a trip if needed, but not for the speed.

Craig.... why don't you change out your speedo to metric? Very easy change!

This is a good question. Since I haven't used mine yet can't say for sure. But I suspect it will track for a period of time. You could use your tach/rpm to maintain speed while in the tunnel.... and if you have traffic in the tunnel with you, just maintain spd behind them.

I use my Garmin Nuvi for track days. Much easier to look over at a digital readout than look down at the analog gauge. An added bonus is that the trip feature records max speed...
