Holley 3255 throttle bracket - where's the return spring attach?
I went to swap out my Holley 4160 for the correct Holley 3255 today and when I went to connect the throttle linkage and return spring, I noticed that the throttle brackets are totally different. :o
The carb is original and was purchased from and rebuilt by Pony Carbs. I can make the throttle linkage work, but where did the return spring attach on the 3255 bracket. I found in my Holley book other pictures with this bracket, but none of them with the carb installed. if your just looking for functionality a piece of angle on the rear carb mounting bolt will get ya' there

Well here's one way to do it that I found poking around with Google.

Some with forward springs, some with backward springs going to the linkage rather than the carb. Does anyone know the way they did it on the originals? (I probably should have started this thread in the originality forum). |
Doug I dealt with this long ago. Make a small bracket of faily stiff material (I used some stainless) drilll a 5/16" hole and attach it using the LH front bolt that secures the intake manifold to the head. The spring which does NOT have to be overpowering, will then attach to the bracket and the rod, screw or what ever is used to pull the throttle to the rear.

I can see that there are ways that originals did it with the spring going forward and backward (Mickmate's photo and mine show some different options and there are others). I have seen photos of both. I can do it either way, I was just wondering if anyone new if one was definitively correct.

OK, after looking at every CSX3000 car on ShelbyCSXinfo, I can answer my own question. There are more forward oriented throttle return springs than rear oriented. Seems like people did it both ways, but I will go with forward and use the same bolt that CSX3287 did, albeit with a proper bracket, not just a bolt.
