Help! Need new license plate frame mount
Hello everyone,
I've had my B&B cobra on the road for about 4k miles and the license plate frame mount broke at one of the edges. Looks like very thin steel and the vibrations finally got to it. The one on it now appears to be from Finish Line (I bought the car used). I don't want to go with the same one and have it break 3k miles later. Anyone know of a better built license plate bracket that will work on my B&B (built in 2008)? THe one for the Factory Fives look to be same bends, but possibly better material? Anyone have a side angle photo of theirs? I tried making my own out of some alumimum from Home Depot (they only had very thin material) and it is not going to work out. https://factoryfiveparts.com/product...8&cat=0&page=1 Any suggestions are much appreciated!! Looks like a rear mount. The stock piece from FFR is pretty well known for breaking, too. I wouldn't waste money on it.
On my car, I tossed the supplied part in the trash, and made my own out of 1/2" x 3/4" alum bar stock. I drilled and tapped two 1/4" holes towards the center. Those holes match the FFR holes that FFR drills through the trunk deck. I ran two bolts from the inside of the trunk and into the bar. No reason you can't do that on your car. Towards the ends of the bar I drilled and tapped two more 1/4" holes. These match the license plate holes. The plate had been mounted that way for years, with no evidence of ever coming loose. |

As long as you're drilling holes, just drill two into the trunk lid that match the license plate. Two small carriage bolts with locknuts and you are good. Why do you need to carry around the extra weight of a bracket? Mine has been this way for 24 years.

Use sheet metal - steel.
Thin Aluminum that is bent is at a high risk a cracking in the bend. I just took measurements of the broken one, corrected some fit issues it had, drew it out, cut it out, and took it to a shop with a metal brake to bend it. Then I painted it black. |
