Need new gas tank

I have a Backdraft with an aluminum gas tank which now has a small cut in the bottom, so it leaks. I need to replace it, I have a choice form Backdraft of either the aluminum or plastic tank. which would be better, or is there something else better out there.

tank

Why not just remove and have it welded?
Save a few bucks as well.

weld it

You have a few choices, you can weld it, probably cheapest.
You can contact Dwight above and ask him to put you in touch with a guy he knows that built me a new aluminum tank for a BDR from a drawing I made. They did an excellent job, gave me an excellent price, it was done when he said it would be and the dimensions were exactly as I had written down. I can't say enough, I was very happy thanks to Dwight.
Or you can buy my stainless steel tank that I took out of the BDR. (I needed more fittings welded on and decided to go with a new tank instead)

glad to hear Vic did you right on your tank. He has helped us several times with "special car part" projects.

It should be easy to repair the aluminum tank.

I agree with weld it, but if I remember right there is a certain way to weld a tank that has had gas in it. The fumes linger. I am not sure of the exact way but I think it was washing it out and then filling it most of the way up with water to force lingering fumes out and then welding with the water still in it. I'm not sure, but it must be somewhere on the web.

Wbulk,

sound correct.

I wash, fill with water and light the gas fumes at the filler tube before I weld on the tank.

That works or displace the fumes by filling it with an inert gas like Argon in the tank.

Easier to have fixed.
