Traction loc set-up

I am rebuilding a 9" traction loc. As I have changed the cluches and put the unit backtogether the question came up as to the amount of drag the unit should have when slipping. The only info I can find says that the unit for a ford trurk should slid at about 150# of torq. Does anyone have a feel as to whether that would be right for a 2300# car?

I don't think there is any way to adjust the breakaway torque(?) possibly increasing the amount of traction lok additive to the oil??? I run a clutch type in my 9" with out a lot of drama, it changes the entire feel of the car VS an open rear end.

Set mine up at 180# by adding another steel,Did it 15 yrs ago so not 100% sure.

Thanks for the info, you can change the slipage by changing the shims under the shim pack. I have been able to change it from 160# to 75# with out much trouble. It is just that I am not sure what works well with a light car.

My oversight Terry, you are correct. I forgot about the shim under the "Hat".

mdross1, how does your Cobra corner with this setup-do you get any lock up when you turn?

mdross1 09-18-2010 03:50 PM

No,it works great just a tad to much throttle turning from intersection usually makes the inside tire complain! Exactly what I hoped for.Otherwise no problem, set mine up dry then added Amsoil synthetic gear lube, never tested after broken in assume it is less now.No matter, hard launches are very predictable with both tires doing the same amount of work. Also had the car scaled and balanced for my weight it's like being on rails.
