Fuel cell question

I just replaced my fuel cell bladder, new foam, the works. Slight problem, the top of the unit that bolts to the bladder will not bolt down because the vent assembly is hitting the black box that sits inside the foam. I could buy more foam but dont really want to. My question is do I need the vent? if not I can just take it out. Im running a carb now where it used to be fuel injected.

Your tank needs to be vented or it will pump fuel out and pull a vacuum and collapse in.
Can you just put a hole in the baffle to allow the vent to go in there or take some off the bottom of the vent?
