Racing Helmet
Okay, I think it's about time for me to buy a racing helmet so I can track my 289FIA. I live in the Santa Cruz area and work in San Jose. Can anyone recommend a good place to purchase a helmet? I know I can order one from Summit Racing, but I'm uncertain about the size of my noggin. (The whole "big hands, big feet" thing doesn't work here) :D
Any recommendations? DD |
I don't know anything about Santa Cruz, but after taking my Cobra out on track days I wish I would have bought a full face helmet instead of the old school open face. The open face is great for better vision, but I like to run with my racing windscreen and it doesn't feel to safe with an open face helmet.....just food for thought.

Doug,
The Norcal SAAC has listing of racing suppliers. A few are located in the Bay Area, but I didn't see anything in the South Bay. http://www.norcal-saac.org/links/carlink.htm (scroll down to Racing Suppliers) |
I'd go full face. Good advice. Think about the racing windscreen, but I might be too lazy to call someone to help me pull the windshield.
Got-the-bug: If this weather holds out, interested in a Sunday morning cruise up to Davenport for breakfast? Not this Sunday, but next? DD |
Sounds good Doug. Let's touch base next week.

Get a full face...most of the events and tracks you are likely to visit require it for open cars.
I'm in the hunt myself (for an upcoming 24 Hours of LeMons event), and my fit issue is with the wrap around chin given my beard. You're right in wanting to try them on...they all fit differently given the same size. |
Also need to try helmet with fire sock if you think you may go that way some day,

Pit Stop Racing is having a Helmet Blowout
Pit Stop USA just sent me an email this morning. They are having an end-of-season helmet blowout. Some nice helmets on sale....

I'm hoping to walk in to some place and try some on. Any bricks-and-mortar businesses that sell motorsports helmets in the CA Bay Area? I'll drive 100 miles (or so) RT, if necessary.
What about the local race tracks (Laguna Seca). They have any race equipment shops? DD |
