fia exhaust

trying to find fia exhaust that exits in front of rear wheels its for a 351. era

This is for an ERA 289FIA? ERA sells the 351W headers and the secondary pipes.

I purchased my 302 headers from ERA, had them ceramic coated. I bought the secondary pipes from ERA as well, though I merely painted those flat black.

I recommend test fitting them. I will probably have my headers trimmed so I can tuck the secondary pipes under the car a little tighter. Speed bumps have become an occupational hazzard.

A bit confused, here, Redd.....are you looking for the FIA style sidepipes where the collector is inside the fender, with a single pipe that connects to the muffler, or are you looking for "289 street" Cobra style under-car style exhausts that usually exit in the rear of the car?

I'm not sure I've ever seen any "289" street style under-car exhausts that exit in front of the rear wheels, but I'd bet almost any competent muffler shop could build you a set. Clearance might be an issue, but if you use oval exhaust pipe you might get a bit of relief from that.

Otherwise, the biggest problem would be the exhaust headers....a set of "shorty" headers might be your best bet, would certainly be easier than finding room under the already crowded chassis for a set of equal length headers.

If you're looking for a set of FIA style headers, well, those are "sort of" shorty style headers.....that's why there's only one pipe that exits behind the front tire.

Bottom line, though......if you're building an ERA, I'd contact them and tell them what you want. I have never built an ERA, but my perception of the ERA product is that it is practically built when you receive it....if you want a street exhaust that exits in front of the rear tires, I'd be willing to bet they'll build it for you!

Cheers from Dugly!

"ERA product is that it is practically built when you receive it...."

Don't think so.

I built my ERA from the "basic kit". Good manual. Easy to build.

It is my understanding that when you receive an ERA kit, the components are mounted in their intended locations.....not shipped in a box inside the body. That must take a lot out of the learning curve, to see where and how every piece is going to be on the finished car. I do understand that most if not all of the parts have to be removed and the kit must require considerable work before it becomes roadworthy, it just seems to me that getting the kit in the manner I described must be almost like receiving a roller :)

I could be mistaken, though......if so, please correct me!

BTW....the ERA FIA 289 is my dream kit....congratulations on owning one!

Cheers from Dugly

Buying the basic kit means the front suspension comes in boxes, wiring harness in a box, et cetera. I got the powder-coated frame and bonded body option, so the body was mounted to the powder-coated frame. I've known others that did their own powder coating and bonding...

ERA is very flexible in the basic kit. I bought parts as I went (queue in "One Piece at a Time" by Johnny Cash...), so they weren't on the basic kit.

redd,

Here is a thread from late last year that might help.

Got mine in almost indentical condition. The rear suspension came weeks later so I had to install that also. Motorcycle jack worked well for that.

My, goodness! Thanks for the clarification. Most of my knowledge regarding ERA products comes from the GT40's dot-com forum, not the Cobra forum. Perhaps my misunderstanding revolves around different "levels" of kit completion available from ERA.

Thanks for that.....ERA was always my "dream kit" b/c I was under the obviously mistaken impression that the kits arrived with things bolted in place.

Cheers and thanks from Dugly  !!
