CamQuest 6
CamQuest 6 is a cam selection simulator. It can be downloaded for free from Comp Cams web site. If you enter in all the information about your engine it will recommend cams that should be used in your engine. It is is important that you know the types of parts in your engine. If you complete all the fields on the screen it will also give you HP and torque figures with a graph.
I was wondering if anyone that has had their engine dynoed has compared it to the CamQuest 6 program, and how accurate is it. Thanks. Wayne |
It's not....
None of the engine sims are really dead on compared to actual dyno results. I routinely check software against actual builds just for giggles. Most of the engine sim software is about 7-8% high compared to the dyno that I use. Comp Cam's software is a lot further off than that. The closest for me is Engine Analyzer Pro. |
I dont think itis an exact science. I have seen dyno reports from two identicle engines except cam. One had .555I and .572E at 110 the other had .56I and .595E at 110 durations were 232/240 and 240/248, difference in dyno numbers were 3 hp and 5ft-lb of torque. Although one cam appears bigger it really made little difference.

Cam selection is really more judgment and experience than anything. Bumping up durations or adding more lift won't do squat if you've reached the capability of your cylinder heads. You end up moving the hp out of the range that can be used and not gaining anything.
As for engine sims, a 7-8% difference can be quite a bit....more than 4-5hp. |
It seemed to be a little to positive.
Thanks. |
