Bummer.
Says he got ejected. Pictures show the car has belts in it. Is it possible to be ejected if you are wearing the belts?
Car took a pretty good hit. Driver compartment looked mostly intact.

The guy probably would have survived if he had not been ejected. The windshield does not even look like it was damaged, so if the car did roll (like the article states) it must not have touched the top of the car. Sad news.

A sad reminder that our toys are just as dangerous as a loaded gun. We must respect these things as they do kill. I hope the family is well. Its a shame it has to happen so close to the holidays. My prayers go out to the family.

It's a sober reminder to be careful with any car regardless of its HP. People do stupid things in all sorts of cars.
Further, to perform a post-mortem on an accident where someone just died seems disrespectful, but that's just my humble opinion.

Very sad. Our prayers go out to them during these times. These cars should all have the dash plaque that says "Respect Me, or I will Kill You" right above the ignition key! Not saying this driver did anything wrong, but as stated above, these cars are like walking around with a loaded gun in your pocket.

Very sad indeed....condolences to his family.
Yes...if you have the old style 'duck bill' lap belts, if they are not completely locked down, they can become undone. You have to ensure that they 'click' into the final postion to be completely locked.
...I have seen this happen a number of times....most unusual was at VIR many years ago, a Second Strike event, driver was ejected and the rear wheel landed on his helmeted head...he was ok. |

We have all been where this poor guy was right before the accident. Everything looks clear, lets light it up and bang this happened. What can you do? Condolences to the family.

Look closely at the first photo where they are holding a sheet on the drivers side. Then look at the photo of the drivers side of the car. The photo has been photo-shopped to cover up an area where the driver was probably thrown around strapped to his harness and ended up outside the vehicle, and crushed by the vehicle. "Ejected" but not thrown clear. Notice also the doors are gone. This car rolled over but the top and windscreen never touched the ground. Perhaps the car spun in the air and the door flying open was clipped off when it struck the ground. I can only imagine what a person would go through loosely strapped in.

Be careful out there guys
The link below is of Kenny’s obituary. I included this as there is a picture of him in the obituary, and you can see from his smile how approachable he would be in striking up a conversation about his Cobra. I was a stranger to him when I first called him up, and then, with his open invitation, went to his shop during the build. He welcomed me in as if he had known me all his life and showed me the progress he was making, without a hint of complaint of my slowing down what he and a couple of friends were working on that day. I didn’t get to meet any of his family, but he had a wife, children, step-children, grandchildren, and many, many friends who will miss him greatly. Be careful out there guys.

That is just a shame.
I lost a great friend last year in his Cobra. Bob Marshall. A true gem of person and damn good wheelman.

Back in the 60's a guy totalled a big block Cobra and was almost killed trying it out.Same thing happened to a Chevrolet dealership with a big block vette.In the wrong hands we all know what the outcome could be.

As it's been said, these cars are only slightly safer than a motorcycle. And in some ways they may be even more dangerous as they can provide a false sense of safety.
I'm going to throw out one other comment in regard to something that has been discussed here a number of times. And I have no idea if they were a factor or not.
Tires. The tires on his car provide minimal traction in comparison to some other options that are available. Those four rubber patches are all that's keeping the car in contact with the road, and the car going straight.
It just amazes me that some will spend $15,000.00 or more on a motor, but then look for the cheapest tires they can find because they don't want to spend the bucks on Avons or similiar tires.
And in closing, thoughts and prayers go out to Kenny's family. Such a shame at this time of year.

Terrible news, I'm glad he was out enjoying himself when his time came.
Had the Pantera going sideways the other day, could have gone bad.
I'll probably do it again...;)
Beats wasting away in a hospital bed in the living room like my dad, so I hope you'll understand why I don't consider him "unlucky". Celebrate the great life this man obviously had.

tin-man, tell the builder to put the 4000RPM chip in the side of your MSD box before you take delivery. You can pull it out and replace it after you've driven the car a few months. We don't need Him calling you home as well....:cool: |
