The weight certificate was NOT listed one my DMV registration receipt. They will NOT issue me my SB certificate without it. This is my 4th cobra I have registered and have never had to do this. I'm just reporting my experience. Darren.

It actually came up when I did not receive my SB# certificate in the mail. I called Sacramento and they said they will not send me the cert. without the weight cert. and I need to bring the CHP vin. cert. and weight cert. to my local DMV office and they will give me the SB# cert for the BAR. I know it's confusing.:CRY:

PaulF is correct that the SB100 and titling are different items. However, you really can't have one without the other. I got the SB100 (smog exemption) as part of all the running around I had to do in advance of getting the actual title. Since there are so many parts to finalizing the receipt of a title, I did lump it all together in what I wrote. Obtaining the title is the very last thing that happens. My car passed all the "tests" and even had plates and registration paperwork. I just never got the title as the state was holding it because my car was "fradulently" registered.
What I was attempting to get across to someone in the process, is to just roll with what they ask of you. Any refusal to provide paperwork, do something out of order, or adopting an attitude with anyone at the DMV will be counterproductive. SkipB |
Here is a phone number to call at the DMV in Sacramento to possibly clarify or solve the SB100/Titling issues you are having: 916-657-7704.
Ask to speak with Lisa or Carlene (there may be others), they were extremely helpful when I experencied some titling issues with a car purchased out of state. Calmly and respectfully explain what issues you are having and they may be able to provide answers or provide assistance. Just read the link you provided, it states that only commercial vehicles require weight certification below 10,000 lbs. since our cars are not commercial vehicles this should not apply. at least that his my understanding after reading this link |
