Bending Turn Signal Lever
I read a thread somewhere about bending the turn signal lever when using a VW style lever/switch. I've searched all over but still can't find the thread.
I know the lever is made of pot metal and probably powdercoated. Does anyone have any experience or tips on doing this. I am looking to get a little more clearance between my hand when on the steering wheel and the lever
thanks
Paul

If your turn signal switch is anything like mine I would advise against bending the pot metal that it is formed from. I'm not sure that even heating it would be a good idea. On mine though the switch is mounted to the steering column mast via a set screw. If you loosen the column and slide it towards you then you could loosen the switch set screw and move it away from you. JMO...

Maybe instead of bending you could cut it shorter and add a new knob.

I don't think you can bend pot metal.

I just put a spacer between the steering wheel and hub.

I used to successfully bend the (SWF-brand) levers but I'm not sure whether I'd trust the current ones. And I won't experiment until I get a bad one back...

Paul, I think we have the VW style turn signal and it won't bend. I installed mine on the wrong side (left side) like American cars, just cuz I wanted it in a normal position. The only problem is it's kind of close to the body, but I've had no problems, and the steering works good for me.

I've extended and repainted steering hubs and also just replaced them to get the right length. That is a place you need a little paw room and by the door just in case you ever need a little lock to lock action.
