I'm not talking about chirping the tires on an upshift, I'm talking about wide open, foot through the firewall in 3rd and 4th gear.....
The answer is, no..... Once you get these cars out of 2nd or the bottom of 3rd gear and you're really moving down the road, you catch traction and your clutch is dealing with everything your engine is putting down to the ground. The only time you under-clutch a system is if you have a weak gearbox like a T5 and you don't want to scatter the thing all over the road. Otherwise, you put enough clutch in the car to hold the engine. None of us have cars that will not hook up in 4th gear or 5th gear....why pick a clutch that will slip? |
Well, alright. I believe you. When my CF wears out I'll replace it with whatever you sell me. I don't see how a CF is tricky to install though for anyone -- the weights are hoaky and most of us just rip them out. Then all there is to it is using the right tool to align it all (Forte sells a nice one for the TKO/Ford Crank) and so long as your bellhousing is aligned, that's pretty much it.
|
Does it make any sense to you to pay good money for a new clutch kit that you have to modify (in order to make it work correctly) and make it hold LESS horsepower? Removing the weight system subtracts from the clamping force of the pressure plate and puts you right back to an OEM replacement clutch. The kits that come with their "dual friction" disc have a little more butt behind them because the friction material is higher on those than a regular organic/organic disc, but you're still not at the performance of a good quality clutch kit.

Gotta love decals. You can do like the race cars that they sponsor....put the decals on your car then run a real clutch.... ROFL

Darn Pat, no matter how hard you try there's no "feel good" in this thread is there??? Brent, give him a free pass... just this one time.
I run M/T drag radials behind 600 hp so I do need a good clutch. i also have been known to hang the two front tires in the air from time-to-time. I'm running a Ram "long style" 2600lb pressure plate w/a sintered iron 3 puck disc. It's been very streetable, never slipped and has functioned perfectly 100% of the time. It was actually cheaper than Centerfarce's comparable offering. |

No sir....
My wife is a peach....don't have kids yet....business is great. I didn't mean to come across with any certain tone. My intent is to just save some guys some money and help them find parts that work. There are lots of products/services that are farces out there and it doesn't hurt to give some direction to the guys/gals out there who are doing this for the first time. No use in having to re-purchase parts a little bit down the road...and a lot of my customers are doing just that. I still love you Patrick....just sometimes I have to show a little "tough love". ;) |

I agree completely with Brent on this one (I think thats a first!! lol) Centerfarce provide very little for the cost. I had a Mcleod diaphragm. It never slipped or chattered even with my big Drag radials. After about a year of abuse, 2 of 4 rivets failed and the center of the disc. It got out of shape and would not release. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...0/IMG_0375.jpg
I had a trip planned and couldn’t get another Mcleod in time, so I went against my better judgment and put the POS centerfarce in it. The engagement is/was very short, it never felt right . So fast forward a couple of weeks ago, driving home from work. I roll into the throttle in fifth, and the pos starts spinning. CRAP…...!! This new failure coupled with my past experience, means Ill never buy another one of those!! I am half tempted to rebuild the old one myself and put it back in!! lol Im ok with tearing them apart or blowing them up, just dont slip!! JASON |
Wow, I always wonder why my little 302 would chirp the tires going into third but my big bad 427 stroker would not. I think Blykins is right my clutch must be slipping a little. I can however crush the gas at 60mph and break them loose, what I am missing is there more torque at the shift than steady rolling and flooring it. fuk now I am pissed.
|
It's easier to break traction in a lower gear because of the multiplication....so a slower roll in a lower gear will net an instant smoke show.
On a hard upshift, where you are barely letting off the gas, or even powershifting, you are essentially letting the engine rev up a little before the clutch engages again....thus the chirping or spinning of the tires if the clutch can hold it. If it can't hold it, then of course it will slip. |
You are right, the first day I had the car I was looking for a 3rd gear burndown and could not do it. I can say this, once I missed from going from 1st to 2nd and went from 1st to 4th and the clutch did not slip and I was surprised the transmission did not come through the floor board. I have the centerforce and at times during high rpms shifts it likes to hold it in gear. When i wear it out i will definelty change to a new brand

Brent called me within hours of leaving my number in a email. He seems very knowlegable and in the short time we chatted I can tell he is a great guy. It really meant a lot to me when someone as busy as takes the time to call and talk car stuff. I will definitely turn to him for the clutch assembly and flywheel purchase and what else may appear down the road.
