Red Skelton piece on the Cobra ?
Anyone know anything about a comment that was made on another thread here on CC? "...Red Skelton piece on the Cobra when it was first being introduced..." Any UTube version floating around?

Blas:
That may have been my comment in response to a "How old are you" thread.
It was long enough back that I don't remember if it was on his show or as a guest on one of the variety shows during the sixties. He was talking about how if you looked at the front of all the new cars they looked like they were going around looking for something but the Cobra looked like it had found it.
Never seen a clip of the piece (it was pretty brief) but haven't looked for it either. I'll poke around and see if it's out there.

Yes, I believe you were the person referring to it originally....Just curious what it was about. Thanks...
There were also some photos of Steve McQueen driving his Cobra floating around too...

Steve McQueen never owned a Cobra....he just used to "test drive" them from Shelby.

McQueen took out CSX2174 as a loaner, I think... Did he ever borrow a 427 too?

Ahem,
McQeen took a Cobra out for month'S long test drive. Shelby threatened legal action if he didn't pay up or return the car. (427 ?). After beating the car to death-as the story goes-McQeen brought the car back, dropped it off and left.
That's my story until corrected by one in the know! :)

I used to "test drive" Ferrari's from time to time. You have to really get your "story" down in order to do so without the salesman tagging along. One time I took a friend and introduced him as my "accountant", and that he had to be involved in the drive for me to make a decision. Since there's only room for two people.... :) :)

A casual scan of the web didn't show a clip of the monologue I was referring to. I'll keep poking to see if I can find it.
I've seen the iconic Cosby clip but this was well before that one.

Speaking of McQueen, within the last year a 1971 429SCJ Mach 1 came up for sale at a dealer that was documented to have been owned by Steve himself. The car was a Grabber Blue beauty - they wanted around 65k for it. God I wanted that one!!!

I heard mention that Bill Cosby's Cobra was one of only two built with a super charger. Can someone validate this?

Ralphy. Two were built with twin paxton blowers. One for Cosby and one for Shelby himself. ******* & CSX3015

I believe the rest of the story goes something like this.
Cosby returned his and someone bought it and drove it off a cliff, killed himself and the Cobra has never be rebuilt.
That is how Carrol S. had the only one left and it sold for 5.5 mil a few years ago.
