and shifting it wide open through the gears. Ended up running 10.70s in this 427 SPF. Doh, I wonder why da Shelby Cobra can't do the same? ;)

That's a small block, not a FE

Of course this was rigged, how would anybody expect a car on street tires to be able to hang with a car on Gumbies. We all know better, and would much sooner be seen in my plastic car.

Sawdust 02-04-2011 04:14 AM

Sundude..... Excellent post, most enjoyable.... although the drag race was a "crock"

I gotta post........**)**)**)

Since the fleecing of the Stock market I've changed my investment strategy.:MECOOL:
Now invest in Aluminum and Steel. :JEKYLHYDE

Normally we drive the Kirkham to the car gatherings.
But on weather iffy days drive the 750 HP Steeda equipped 07 Shelby Mustang. ;)

Either car results in a big Sh##eating grin on my mug. :3DSMILE:
We pack a pizza in the trunk and the crowd agrees we have the finest Pizza delivery vehicles.:LOL::LOL:

The Kirkham with race gas is the peoples choice. **)**)**)

The video is of Greg Schroeder's 427SB SPF. He ran bigger ID headers and mufflers, added a Pro-Systems carb that was totally dialed-in, 31 spline axles with True-Trac 3rd member, and MT drag radials. His car runs like stink with minimal mods and a really balanced package/approach. Embarrassing that the FE that they put against the Super Snake was so poorly prepped (either that or the driver was poorly prepped).

:) or, the driver was paid off to sand bag it.

I know my car has ran an 11.97 on street tires. This run - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uXGxzcIrKyY - was 12.10 when it was 95 degrees around 1pm. Even I can shift better than the dude in the Shelby video. This was my best run - 11.97 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wasw45HkU9s

BTW - the other car is a small block, nitrous car.

rollinggeorge 02-05-2011 08:59 AM

Your video got me fired up for todays ride

What time did the nitrous car turn??:eek:

George, on that day, his quickest time was 9.97. However, I know he has run a 9.76. He drives it daily in the summer!

There was an article about Shelby's personal 427 Cobra many many years ago where it ran about 13 seconds in the quarter. As I remember it had 4.1 gears with a 12/1 compression and was running Goodyear racing tires. I was on the first Shelby cruise and asked Shelby why it ran so slow. He got pissed at me about the question and said it was set up for the street. Now I had driven my car as a daily driver and ran mid 12's with a best of 12.40 at 112. My Cobra had the 428 with 3.54 gears. The only changes were side exhaust, 780 Holley, dual point distributor and rain race tires. I believe my car was more of a street car since I had driven it about 48,000 miles in 4 years.

Most of the original SC Cobras ran from 12.2 to 12.4 in the quarter but many were slower. It generally depended on the tires being used and the driver. I had a friend who ran 12.0 at 125 with very hard race tires on his SC Cobra. I know how bad they were because I got them from him and couldn't get any traction. His motor was not stock and I think he would have run in the low 11's with good tires and in the 10's with slicks.

The drag race was a joke. Watch while the mustang is running the road course , the backend kept sliding out . That's a better driving car ? The video was purely for promotional purposes .

cobrarob 02-05-2011 05:33 PM

The question is an absolute no brainer

The super snake mustang is just another mustang to go along with the mustang cobra , mustang saleen , mustang roush , mustang KR , for gods sake they all look exactly the same , unlike the cobra which is a muscle car icon and always will be , why would I ever prefer a car that no one even looks at , and on top of that i think CS charges $70K to put a few items on the mustang super snake that i am sure you could have put on elsewhere for less $$$$

Just my $.02 cents

cobra25 02-05-2011 10:00 PM

If that is the greatest Shelby ever then why don't they take it to Europe and win some races. At least win the SCCA championship with one....come on..

rodneym 02-05-2011 10:18 PM

The results were opposite of what i expected.

You know, they ARE trying to sell the Mustang.;) They had to make it look good. And on serious tires.

Mike Bartlett 02-12-2011 09:46 PM

Hey Moderators,
How about linking this thread to the Mustang forum thread so we can here them try and defend the Super Snake now that would be fun!

It's great that they saw the cobra as the ultimate sports car as we all do for comparing the super snake too.....the final conclusion is only to be expected as it is a promo!

RICK LAKE 02-13-2011 05:06 AM

Where to start

Let's see this line of BS.
Cobra 2,500 lbs, Super snake 3,800 pounds This is true
Driver of cobra on road course, Drives like MISS DAISY,:o soft shifts, no power slides, sunday afternoon drive. How old are those BB tires?? Car is running 15" tires. The suspension is very soft, car leans alot in the turns. Long shifts.:(:o
1/4 mile time, more crap as others have said. I ran better than that time with a 452 motor with 386 hp and 448 of torque at E-town and Gateway. I used only 3 gears and left the line off idle. MPH show that the guy was dumping on the gas pedal.:p You DON'T run 12.9 and have a 121 mph trap speed. Must have stopped for coffee and waited for the stang to catch up.:rolleyes:If they wanted a faster time from the cobra in the road course, new set of tires would have helped. The barnyard door (cobra) looks about even up with the stang for cutting through the air. Open up those side pipes and see what was left on the table. Now for the stang,
Super Stang, with a blower any car can become 700HP without a lot of work being done to the motor. More boost, A larger set of injectors, intercooler or water injection, custom tuning of the ECU. This car is about 1,500 pounds heavier and this makes a statement about how strong this car is. weight helped this car to launch with new slicks. Put this car up against a Camaro with a blown LS7 and we will see who is the big dog in the weeds.%/ Driver of stang, power slides, they loss time when driving, banging the motor off the rev limiter, lost time, bigger wheels and tires, a plus. The stang has P/S, larger brakes (ABS), traction control and an upgrade suspension setup. A large plus. If CS wants to put a current built car up against a current built car maybe COBRA#3170 would be willing to have a match race. Seeing the optima challenge from 2 years ago shows that a cobra is still the bench mark to compare cars too. I am sure Jerry wouldn't mind taking out 3170 for a couple of shake down laps and show what Bruce has done with a orginial cobra. I'm not sure If 3170 even has power steering. Here is another case of the CS rope a dope. The Stang is quite a car and passes emmissions of Cali. for 2011 and making great power. The cobra has been around for more than 40 years and still worth it's weight in silver. Let's see if the stang will be worth the same in 40 years if we still have gas.%/;) Rick L. who's next???

mdross1 02-13-2011 05:25 AM

No doubt a neat hot rod but Nothing does more for the visuals than the 427 Cobra, and 100% certain a heck of a lot less money.Besides my big block Cobra is paid for and been sitting in our shop since 1993.
