Turkey Pan Rubber Seal
I have searched the various forums and still haven't found what I'm looking for.
I need a source for a rubber weatherstrip to seal the space between the top flange of my turkey pan and the bottom of the hood (or bonnet for you English types). Most I have seen are just a push-on piece that only really covers up the flange and do not extend vertically from the flange. I'd love to find an L-shaped rubber weatherstrip that pushes onto the flange and then extends an inch or so vertically to seal to the hood. I have looked at Mcmaster-Carr and Western Rubber with no luck. Anyone know of a source? |

That's pretty close - if it was a 90-degree version to fit the flange, it'd be perfect.

Bingo! Style #10 looks to be the perfect fit.
Cashburn - thanks for locating this - I looked all over the Mcmaster-Carr catalog and didn't find these. The wife says I'm always looking right at something and not seeing it. I always blamed it on the difference beween estrogen and testosterone - but after further reflection, she may be right.......... |

I ordered the seal from McMaster-Carr. They delivered it in 24 hours! Fits perfectly. Thanks for the help, guys.

Thanks for posting on this, DougD.....now I plan on researching a turkey pan for the 5.0 HO motor in my 427 body style Cobra replica (but, first, a change of intake maniflod/carb is in order). Cheers from Dugly  |

Be sure to confirm the temperature limitations of your final choice of seal...Melting, fire or both would make for a bad day...
|
It's good to 248 degees F.

Think that's enough?...sunny, hot summer day, end of a spirited drive, car parked in sun, heat soak from engine & headers, no airflow...etc...
Perhaps a MSDS on the foam material you can purchase at JEGS for the same usage would give you a feel for the temperatures commonly found under the hood? Maybe knowing what temp vapor lock occures at will give an indication of the common under hood temperatures you can expect to see...Heck, your coolant is 195 degrees minimum...Just thinking out loud here... |
