Well....here I am. Proud owner of BDR #951

I have been lurking around these forums for nearly a year. Never really posting anything but just reading everything I can.

After much debate over which manufacturer, what color, what engine, what options - I decided on Backdraft #951. Pepper White with White Ghost stripes. (I wanted something totally different from what the typical Cobra looks like)

I guess this post is my official coming out and introduction.

I am not a gear head or a mechanic. I have never owned a classic car other than helping my dad restore a 1965 GTO when I was probably 10 yrs old. The fastest and most powerful sports cars I have ever owned were a 1996 BMW M3 and a 2001 Corvette. Both I had for less than 2 years.

I don't think I am having a mid-life crisis. I am 38yrs old probably younger than the average here but certainly not the youngest.

I simply fell in love with the Cobra's looks, sounds, smells, and head turning attraction and decided I needed to get one.

I got my car from Jay at Vintage-Sports and I must say he was a complete pleasure to deal with and has been unbelievably patient when it comes to answering all my stupid questions and helping me resolve the minor issues I have had to deal with.

I am in Southern California and it does not seem like the So-Cal group here is that active with posts. I would like to find out where I can find other owners and where the best places are to drive and showcase these beauties.

I look forward to contributing to the forums here. As much help as these forums have been for me in making my decision and solving my problems - I hope I can add some good stuff.

I have completed the whole SB-100 registration process here in California and hope to post my step by step experience soon.

I have installed clear-bra on the doors, around the back of the cockpit, and on the whole front end.

I have installed a sound system (upgrading the one that came with the car) with a Sony marine head unit hidden in the trunk, front remote system, 10" Sub hidden in the trunk that somehow does not take up any trunk space, and 4 speakers in the cockpit that sounds as amazing as the Roush Racing 427SRX I had installed.

I already have a custom center console being made by Anthony and a custom Tonneau Cover being made by "Pig" - both found here in the forums.

Soon I will be posting detailed pictures and step by step posts on what I have done, how I did it, and the final results.

I have only had my car a month. I have put 200 miles on the car and already cracked my windshield, broke my E-Brake, broke the trunk support arm, dealt with a gas leak, and rattled loose 1/2 dozen bolts on the car. Never in my life has a new car given me so many fits yet never in my life have I been so in love with a car......

What's next?

I would be interested in the radio unit. Manufacturer, model# for both the radio and remote. Pictures if you have them.

That kind of stuff is about par for the course when it comes to working out the bugs on a new Cobra. Could be considered typical for most any manufacturer. Stuff will ALWAYS need fixing, adjusting, tightening, replacing, it's just comes with the territory. Thats why a lot of owners do their own maintenance, and those who can't, generally figure it out,,, or,,, end up selling the car out of frustration, with low miles.

Just part of owning a Cobra. :)

Car looks beautiful, love the white, congratulations.
Loose bolts are a fact of life in all Cobras. If anything feels amiss or new noises develop try to take your time and diagnose where they are coming from; you don't want to leave any parts behind in one of your drives ;-)
I've had a loose exhaust header, one gas leak ( still unresolved but I know where it is, just don't want to stop driving to fix it), and one loose rear end part in 1000 miles and even more smiles.
Have fun with your new toy and please do post your experience with California registration as I know a lot of people have a hard tim with that.

I really like that paint.

YA pretty standard issues it seems, watch the temp. gauge as well I put the expanded radiator in mine. works much better than the stock BMW one. Some dealers put a lower T stat in to mask the the issue.

E-brake had issue with mine as well, problem was the cables. Ferrels on the inside were to long thus not allowing the pads to expand. had to make some modifications. Now they work.

Jesse,
Glad to see you post here. Send me some photos of your car in SoCal. It probably looks alot better by the beach and sun then the snow and muck here.

Love the white with white ghost stripes. I also like non-standard Cobra colors.

And the white goes well with the brown interior. Great choice.

When I bought my car it had a CD player system with remote in it. Took it out the first night I owned it. For me the music comes out of the pipes on either side of the car, but then that was me.

Congratulations on one fine Cobra.
