Just to elaborate on my previous comment about whether a Merlin V-12 would fit in a Cobra (No), the Merlin 61 (as used in the P-51) is over 7 feet long, over 2 1/2 feet wide, and just over 3 feet tall with a weight of over 1600 pounds (dry). Still, 1500+ horsepower (on 100 octane avgas) is nothing to sneeze at!

Craig, I remember seeing pics of that car a while back, but to hear it running is something else. Incredible!
James - I don't think so. They are from an illustration by Lance Russwurm that I used to post in the Kirkham Flip Top thread; and they served as the inspiration for my sketches. The "Milk 'n' Honey" moniker came from the nickname sticker on the first P-51 model I built when I was about 12. Jamo and 'Werks - that 555 car has the P-51 stuff goin' on all right, but it definitely needs a set of guns to compete with the West Coast fellas' track dog! Le Mons - I love it!! :3DSMILE: |
Did I mention that besides being gunless, the east coasters only have...chuckle...4 cylinders in 555? It's a cute little thing. :p
Jorge Anderson will be hosting the battle to the death next year. Here's how 556 "suggests" lines for other entrants... Da guns... http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d.../IMG_00661.jpg |

555...bought LeMons-ready, all sorted out. Four plugs changed. BFD
556...built and run with less than 2 miles on it. Blown engine rebuilt at the track, on the pavement. There was a helluv'a crosswind too. |
Interesting concept, V-12 would be interesting.
There is a mustang that someone put a V-12 from an aston martin; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLo8O1YuUsw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7vOL...eature=related Might be an interesting marriage, putting a british powerplant in it. |
Kind of reminds me of Jeff Millers car. My 2 cents would to have hood scop like this:

How about the Ryan Falconner V12 engine?? I'm sure he had some connection with Shelby and Cobras back in the 60s!! Also I heard his V12 engine is used in scale down Mustang P51 replicas!!!

Falconer V12 600ci 800hp length 38'' width 23.5'' high 32''. Can anyone confirm if it would fit into a Kirkham engine bay?

Apparently they are - $65K a pop. Sure would look good in a P-51 Cobra though.

Would be an awesome project! Need the le mans"ish" style top & as much aero work as can be done w/o ruining the lines. Put some gears in it & see if they can get it comfortably into the 200's.

How about the VW W12 powerplant, same one used in the 1000HP Bugatti.
|
There's also the Ford Indigo V-12 from the 1996 concept car of the same name. Probably only the one exists though. Closest thing to a Ford would probably be a Jag or Aston V-12. At least there would be a connection. Plus the real P-51 did have a Brit-sourced powerplant...
