Superformance early build vs later build
Shopping for a Superformance and just wondering if there are any significant differences or improvements in the later manufactured vehicles. Or, stated differently, are there any problems with the early builds that the later cars corrected? What would be a cut off number? By the way, why are some cars identified with SPF and some cars SPO?

SPF is an acronym for Superformance while SP0 are some of the characters/numbers in the VIN.

I have car 522. The only issues I know of for this vintage are rear shock mounts and rear diff mounts. Easy fixes and most have addressed these issue already. I believe there were some major improvents around car 380 or so.

Good question? I’ve been dealing with SPF #2990 for some time now. You don’t want one with the new rear-end. (ZF rear-end) The problem I have now (the pinion angle is wrong) after installation of motor and trans is, I have 8 degrees on my drive shaft. You should have between 3 & 4 degrees. At around 45 and up, mph I have a vibration. High Tech did not do the homework prior to installing the new ZF rear-end!! What Dennise Olthoff is telling me is remove gas tank, fab up some brackets’ weld them in, and reinstall gas tank.

I have #239 for the last 6 years it was built in 1998, registered in 99. currently has about 50k miles on it.( plactic odometer gear stripped about a year ago, trying to make my own! lol)
It has been such a great car. I certainly like the older 8.8 Ford diff. strong, cheap, easy to find, lots of parts support. my car does not have a dropped foot box but even with a size 13 shoe its not a problem. i have changed alot of things, but more to suit me than necessary fixes. Big brakes, alum hubs, manual master cylinders, drag radials, 4.10 gears, big fuel system , redundant msd ignition system are the big items. Some day ill have the new motor done. Its a work in progess lol but thats what makes it so fun Jason |
