Naf
Anyone here heard of NAF (North American Fiberglass) ... I'm sure there will. Any idea what they cars were like any good / bad?

Hi Dale, I owned an NAF several years ago. Like all kits, the quality depends on the builder. The NAF was a lower level kit using square tubing and mustang suspension. Mine had a 289 so it was not fast enough to get you in real trouble. The NAF was a good first cobra, but if you have the money, keep looking. There are many other manufactures you can choose from. NAF is history. The guy that owned it lives in Superior AZ and is pretty much retired. I bought a body from him about 18 months ago to replace my NAF body that didn't fare well, after a trip through the desert. My old body was far superior to this one and I've spent a chunk of change having it corrected. That said, an aquantience brought a very nice NAF 289 FIA over for me to look at. What a quality built car, that was! Pretty sure it had been a roller from NAF, back in the late 80s. As mentioned, it predominately depends on the quality and skill of the builder.

Dale, I've been building off and on over the years a NAF that I got in 1989, have made some changes to the chassis, but the body seems to be well built. Hoping to finally get it all together this summer. Pictures in my gallery....

Should a car built & registered in Arizona have an MSO / MCO ... it's just the owner has only sent me copies of the Cert of Title and Vehicle Registration.
Will the MSO/MCO state something different with regards to year of car? |
Once it is titled and registered, the MCO is not used. The title is what is important as it is what establishes both ownership and vehicle legitimacy.

The problem I may have is that the VIN Plate on the car states the manufacturers ID, which is NAF................
The Title & Reg doc state the issued VIN from DMW which is AZ............ So when the car comes in through customs the "VINs" wont match Any thoughts / ideas on the subject? |
Simply have a plate made with the VIN number on it and attach it to the car somewhere. No one will care about the mfg. ID number for registration purposes.

Some history...
If memory serves me correctly, Jack Kube was the fiberglass man for Unique Motorcars when they started out in Arizona. Unique decided to move to Alabama, but they initially left a mold out in Arizona so that they could do cars from both places. Later, they picked up that mold and moved it to Alabama.
I don't know if Jack ever went to Alabama with Unique. Jack then started NAF in Arizona, which was his company. I don't recall if he splashed a Unique car or not. He did do a slabside at one time. It was on the cover of Kit Car in the fall of '84 or '85... my very first issue. My how time flies:eek:! Anyone can correct this or fill in the blanks. But I think this is the gist of the early days... |

The NAF was white with blue stripes, and the cover photo of it was at speed on a race course, in a right-hand-sweeper... I still have that magazine, but it is buried in storage. It will be awhile before I can retrieve it... but someday I will, and then I can tell you. Also in that issue was the second half of a build up article of one of Chuck Beck's domestic 550 Syders.
