Az. Registration
 
Would like to talk with anyone who has recently registered a cobra replica in the Phoenix / Scottsdale Az. area recently. Would like to know the best way to make it as painless as possible. Thanks in advance for any help and or advice. Mike 602-376-0613

I register cobras all the time, you need to bring the value stated of the car to dmv, that way it can be applied to the title, also if you want to register it as a 1965 it will need to be inspected, it is a painless process, then you will give them all your paper work for the car, ask if they will put ford or cobra on title, probably wont let you but it will say speco 1965, which means its a special project car and you will be granted the historical plate. So make sure the dmv you go to has an inspection station, bring your paperwork, they will even let you apply the vin sticker to the car. GOOD LUCK.

rwillia - maybe it is in the definition of roller vs turnkey ??

if my interpretation is correct, ROLLING COST defines the cost of the roller and thereby excludes the cost of the engine/trans and install fees .

If so, car was undervalued and therefor under taxed - vs a turn key car with ALL fees included.

or, what am I missing ?

I had a friend get hammered after the fact when motor vehicle department figred out they only taxed 'part' of the total cost.

I tink if you want answers from AZ guys you should put this in the AZ forum.
Mine was painless but I did have the car built for me. I went to the MVD on Greenfield in Mesa. If you have trouble at one go to another. Ask the AZ guys.

In Pima County (Tucson), you need to provide the MSO (manufacturers source of origin) which will have the date of the car for your title. In my case, I asked EM to use 1966 on the MSO so I would not have to go thru emissions. Mine is titled as a 1966 Ford Cobra. No mention of specially constructed vehicle, which was great. You can also make arrangements for the inspector to come to your home to complete the inspection. I don't remember much about the cost estimate, but it must have been fairly simple. My plates are $13 per year. Good luck.

What if its already registered in another state as a 1999? Can I still register it as a 65 in Arizona and avoid the admissions?
