I took my car to a local show and when i went to buy a cold drink from the booth that was there to benefit the car club i over heard one of the judges say he would have awarded the "Cobra" first place if the owner had dusted it off......i drove my car to the show.....the car that got first place the owner trailered the car there and spent all day dusting it off.....i'm surprised it had any paint left on it when he put i back in the trailer.....oh yeah i got second place and didnt spend all day polishing my car in the hot sun.....i spent time in the shade visiting with patrons of the show....

too bad, you could have had the 6 dollar trophy instead of the 4 dollar one

Well, after hearing all the bashing, I'm here to stick up for the trophy and car show accessory industries.
It's the car show organizers who pick the quality of the trophy, not the trophy company. There are plenty of expensive trophies available to them for purchase. The car show organizers are just cheap and buy the cheap trophies. Also, if people keep buying the "kid crying on the bumper" accessory, then why should they quit making them? |

I would rather be out driving mine than setting in a chair all day at a car show. But then that's me. Everyone needs to make their own choices. |
you do realize I was being sarcastic, don't you?

Everyone has their preferences. I'm not one to clean every spec of dust from my car, nor do I care about some ugly trophy. That's not why I built it & it's surely not why I enjoy driving it. I do enjoy the local car show, though. For me it's about seeing what everyone else brings. I see my car every day;) I enjoy seeing the 1955 Chev Bel Air with $20k in paint as much as the Rat Rod with a Rattle Can finish & holes in the floor.

I rode my motorcycle every chance I could and even had it in the rain. I would take a bit of time after most rides and would have it looking good again pretty quick. You can enjoy a ride and keep it clean. When a car is placed in a show its going to be judged by people. If its going to be displayed I feel it should be cleaned up. For me I loved to see a detailed car at a car show. It makes it even better if that detailed car sees the street as well. If it does see the street then it can't be perfect but making it look its best shouldn't be out of the question. A race car can still be washed and cleaned out. I use to own a detail shop so I kinda look closer at the car and how well they prepared for the show. I detailed a couple for a show as well. If you drive a lot you can save some time detailing by not putting mirrors under the car and keep the hood closed. James |

There's only a couple that I keep around and not in the attic, but the favorite ones I have is record low et from Bakersfield March meet in 70 and 71---
I have several from ISCA in garage attic . The thing that has been ignored here is the level of shows--they range from the drive/cruize ins at a resturant on a weekly basis----this is a good opt to get your car out and drive it, meet and talk with friends---if you want to enter the competition then your car should be clean or very unique. Next up would be the monthly type crz of same nature and maybe a little higher level with more cars from a larger geographic area. Next along that trend are the annual community events generally put on by American Legion, Amvets, Lions Club and these definitely should be spruced up if you enter the comp and are looking for a trophy Now---when it comes to the off season ISCA type shows (generally winter) you will be damn lucky to even get an entry and if you do----you not only better have your entry clean, polished everywhere, a good display, sign, build picture book, but lighting and music----every screw should be turned so the phillips crosses line up, evenly spaced, and all of the same spec. Everything either counts FOR you or AGAINST you---you need to know the rules before you go so you don't lose the class win just because you didn't have all the tires letters and valve stems lined up----- |
I used to go to car shows all the time when I first got the car. Now I never go. Not interested. Even if they gave me a 25' trophy, for sitting around all day in the sun doing nothing, . . . Just don't care.

I've never 'shown' mine although we sometimes go to drive-in type shows. When we do I like to park it and then go look at other cars. Because, you know, I've seen mine before. I don't even like to sit by it because then I have to watch people look at it and they ask me stuff and it gets old.
I built it to drive, I live on a dirt road and this is AZ...it's dusty here. The day I worried about wiping down every last inch of the motor and picking all the gravel out of the carpet will be the day I sell it...literally, because that's the only reason I could see for doing all that very un-fun crap. |
A car show normal has an entrance fee of $15-$25 and, yes if you win a trophy you paid for it in advance. The car show is usually an all day adventure sitting in the hot sun waiting for that trophy you might or might not win. If the car show is sponsored by the local Corvette club all the trophies will be given out to the Corvettes long before they get to the Cobras clean or in patina. The Cruise-In is normally a short term gathering where car enthusiasts gather and BS and you can leave any time you want. During our snowbird season here in Florida I can take you to a Car Show or Cruise-In each and every day of the week within an hours drive from my house. On Saturday and Sunday you will have multiple shows to pick from to attend. I have attended both but really like a Cruise-In better but most of the time I leave my car at home and take my camera, take my pictures and leave any time I feel like I have had enough car show.
