Oil cooler problem
 
I just installed a new remote oil Filter ready for the first drive of the year, I cant get the filter to seal !!. I have tried two filters ( expensive ones in fact) and the oil still is coming out. the two mounting brackets are the same dimensions I also installed new lines and and checked the flow, im pretty sure it's routed right. Good oil pressure etc.. Anyone encountered this ? If I had them backwards at the block would this cause it? Im pretty sure I have the right but short of ordering a new filter mount i dont know what else could be the problem.

yes, sprry, It was a new remote filter. There is flow going through the filter. I have not checked it all the way back to the block but i would think even if it was obstucted there should still be a good seal on the filter to the remote mount. Stupid remote mount im missing a perfect driving day:CRY:

Note that if your remote filter housing is different, the oil exits from the center of the filter.

The routing is correct, am i missing some sort of trick to get the filter to seal? it's the same remote mount and filter I was running before.

If it is the same remote mount you used before and it never leaked, then I would check the facing on the mount to be sure it hasn't cracked or has some bur in it that is tearing your rubber seal ring on the filters. I always filled my filters and put oil on the rubber ring before screwing them on and I never had a leak of any kind. It sounds as if you have already checked to be sure that the oil exits the filter from the center.

You probably are using the wrong part number filter for what the remote is----remember that the kid at auto zone has no idea what your talking about---

most remote filters take pretty standard oil filters. --

you can take measurements of the gasket area and compare to your base --

are you sure something is now not warped or bent ?

It could be the center hollow "bolt" that the filter screws onto has backed out of the housing. The filter is bottoming out on the screw but not sealing on the housing. Just screw it back in (add blue loc-tite).

mpanten Some filter housing come with caps inside of the screw on area to keep the area clean and of no debrie. I have seen the cap not removed and cause oil leaks like yours. There is enough pressure to blow the cap to the side or into the housing. Put cap and lines and run a wire coat hanger through the line and see if it comes out both ends with any obstruction. Add my vote for making sure the center threaded post that the filter screws into is tight. Also make sure that an old O ring from a previous filter isn't stuck against the mating surface of the adapter. I've seen both conditions.

I found it, it was just a loose AN fitting, yes im an idiot and wasted a whole day and 8 quarts of oil :LOL:

These things happen. Even with the very best of us. I bunged up a fuel line just tightening a fitting the incorrect way. (Damn near blocked a braided line by twisting entire fitting, instead of retainer nut) I should have known better, but I took a short cut.

Damn! sometimes it's really tough being Human.Bottom line you found it,just part of why these cars mean so much to us.

My first panic attack on the maiden voyage was smoke pouring out from under the hood.Had overfilled the expansion tank until learning the coolant system seeks it's own fill level.I kept thinking it needed more!

LOl, I guess it wouldnt have been so bad if I werent so anxious to get out on the first drive of the year. Sadly I have done dumber things but that is a topic in it's self.:LOL:

Had a similar experience on the first drive of my ERA. Saw what I though was smoke coming out from under the hood (old military pilot and REALLY hate smoke coming out of an engine cowl). Got pulled over and the smoke stopped immediately. Turned out to be reflections of the trees overhead coming off of the paint and reflecting on the windshield. Had me going for a few seconds.
