Expansion tank for 427 FE
Does anyone knows where can I get my expansion tank chrome plated?, second part of the question is how difficult is to take this tank off the engine. Anything I should be aware of:eek: ?
Tks |
Drain water in Radiator until below water goose neck on intake manifold. Un-clamp top water hose from tank as well as overflow and return hoses if you have them. Unscrew 2 bolts connecting tank to intake manifold. You may have to lightly cut around the connection between the tank and the intake to loosen the gasket. Be sure clean all mounting surfaces, replace gasket and put ant-seize on the bolts before putting it back together. Check for leaks.....

These guys:
/www.customchromeplating.com Did my tank. They also fixed a few dents in the process. About 95% of their jobs are custom automotive jobs. Bruce |
Hi Bruce:
Tks for your advice, if it is not much to ask, what did they charge for the chroming the tank? I am trying to compare prices with a NJ oufit that I have used in the past. Thanks again. Lou |
They offer 3 different grades of finishes. I wanted a show quality finish and was quoted $170. I almost wish I had gone with a lesser grade because my expansion tank is now the best looking part on my car.
As a side note, I was quoted a turn around time of 14 days but got in back in 7. Bruce |
Hi Bruce:
that is a very reasonable price at the of the summer I will send my tank to them. Tks bud. Lou |
