Bellhousing Alignment, i think i finally got it
 
Well, hour 15 on the bellhousing alignment and i think i finally have it lined up correctly. BTW, everybody that says the offset dowels are a PITA is correct. I will never use them again unless the bellhousing is vintage and should not be drilled!!!

At 12 o clock= 0
At 9 o clock= -.010
At 6 o clock= 0
At 3 o clock= +.006

So, if my thinking is correct, TIR= .004 from left to right, correct?? And that is acceptable because it is less than .005??? Right??? And the offset is .002

How I installed the magnetic base=took two of the flywheel bolts out. The rest are in place the the flywheel is flush to the crank.

Could not get a picture at 9 or 6 due to the direction the dial indicator was facing. I had to lie down on the floor to read it at those positions.

Your total out of round is .010"
 
RestoCreations You out of center is .010" Side to side need a tap to move the bell toward 9 o'clock. Top to bottom is perfect. You have sent time trying to get this centered, a good tap with a hammer from your right to left should help get the numbers closer to "0". You want to end up with .000" top and bottom and -.002" on both sides at 3 and 9. This will be centered and you will have out of round .002" which is well with in spec. If the spec is .005" you are still out of spec IMO. Which off set pins did you get? They should have a large slot to rotate them. If you have the room to work adding allen head bolts to lock off the movement of the pins once they are in spec. You need to drill and tap a hole into the pin hole I know it's a pain in the butt but they will never move again. Rick L.

Lakewood offset pins. I have rotated them around about 15 times and this is the closest i have been able to get-pretty annoying. I spent 7 hours on it yesterday and was just about to have a preschool style temper tantrum when I quit. That is why i said i will never use them again. Not to mention one is larger than the other and got jammed inside the block and would not rotate initially.

Here is an easy way to adjust without moving pins
 
RestoCreations. Here's the easy way to get .010"
Do you have dermel tool? if yes pull the bell housing and run a thin marker line on both pin holes. on the left one you want it at 9:00 oclock outter edge and on the right side 3:00 on the inside. Only go from 10:00 to 8:00. Don't go from top to bottom. The same applys for the right side. from 2:00 to 4:00 oclock on the black of the marker this will give you about .020" to play with. A small drill bit can be used as a file and do the same thing. If you have a round file for steel this will work too. Just remove a little metal should get you on center. Hey, how about a first name. Don't rotate the pins any more. leave them alone. Follow the K.I.S.S. theory, Keep it simple SILLY. Don't over think the problem.:eek::o;):)

I used lakewood bellhousing locating kit when I did mine. You need a welder when "setting up the bellhousing" but you only to it one time on that engine bellhousing combination. Google Lakewood bellhousing locating kit. Used on steel bellhousings.

the Kirkhams recommended the kit you mention. I should have followed the build manual thread. oops Live and learn.
