Fuel filter question
I have a Daytona Coupe and Hurricane Cobra. Both have carburated engines. Am using a Holley Red pump on one and Black on the other. Holley calls for a "free flow" fuel filter between the tank and the pump so I have been using the Mr. Gasket glass filter. I have had nothing but trouble with them leaking. What is a good free flow filter to use in this situation.

Mike, I have to say stay away from the glass filters. I know they seem all cool because you can see in them but they flow poorly and do break. Most of the major carb/fuel pump companys (including Holley) market good, reliable, cleanable filters that won't give you any trouble. Your set-ups look pretty cool and deserve the good stuff. Something like this would work fine and is only like $25:

I picked up a couple of these. Not cheap, but nice to be able to open it up by just unbuckling the "clamshell" so check or service the filter.

Nearly all retail stations have 10 micron filters on their dispensers. You know when the pumps slow down? That means the filters are in need of changing. Some of the filters at Summit listed were 40 micron and one was 100 micron! The smaller the micron size, the more fine particles are filtered out. Oh, you can't even SEE particles less than 40 micron in size. It is human nature to want the added protection of a filter on your fuel. They are added insurance for sure. Funny, I've got one on my Cobra and will probably change it someday just to see if there is anything in it!

I use to use the Fram canister but now my favorite is the Canton CM filters
Canton Racing Products I have it mounted upside down in the picture ( inlet is usually the bottom ) . The best part is you can remove the cover and change the filter without making a mess. When the filter is mounted the proper orientation ( unlike mine below ) you can lift the filter out without spilling a drop of gas These have AN12 straight ports so you will need adapters Its only about $60 so its inexpensive http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...a/IMG_1825.jpg |
