Anyone else?

I stayed there once a few years ago. It is the closest decent hotel to the track, but there is not much in that area (Sand Springs) in the way of restaurants. Trailer parking is tight. You'll have to park at the side or or rear of the building and hope there is not too many of you.

I got a $89 deal on Priceline.com at the Marriott Southern Hills on 71st St. It's about 15 mi further away, but lots of parking and nearby eats.

I plan to leave the Cobra and trailer at the track Sat night. It is a secure facility.

I would really like to go down fri night drop off and leave myself. The enclosed trailer is gone so its gotten harder to protect the tools and car.

PurpleVenom 07-11-2011 04:14 PM

My thought was to drop the trailer Friday at the track. That would leave me with just the truck which is very mobile and I can sleep 15 minutes longer :D

Good idea, of course, but ... it's a 60 to 80 mi round trip from the hotels, depending on whether you are in Sand Springs or Tulsa. I'm just going to head out early Sat am.

Scott will be camping in his Winnebago at the track along with a couple others. The track front gate will be open and I have use of all the covered areas at the track. Feel free to drop your trailers at the track there is plenty of shady areas as well as canopy's with electric for FANS (just in case we need a little breeze).

I gained a couple of spots last week because of schedule conflicts so I need to sell a couple more spaces. Cost is $300 for the weekend so PM me if you need more information.

LREYBURN 07-12-2011 08:00 AM

We'd love to, however, I'm retired and on a fixed income and have to allocate my resources to vintage racing commitments. This deal that Clois has put together is really a terrific value! I'll tell ya what...If I win the Lottery I'll come and pay everyone's entry fees. You guys have fun.

PurpleVenom 07-12-2011 09:13 AM

So Clois, my trailer has a rooftop AC, would I be able to plug in during the day for a cooling area?

Clois Harlan 07-12-2011 12:18 PM

Tim,

Yes you can but they may hit you up for a daily electric fee...maybe not! :)

SSSammy 07-12-2011 12:28 PM

Transponders?

Clois, do we know if they will be available?

thanks,
Sam

PurpleVenom 07-13-2011 09:00 AM

Even if there is a fee, that will be ok. Is there a common area where we can go to cool off? Also, just found this hotel within 15 miles of the track. Looks ok, got great reviews and there are good enough restaurants nearby for me for two nights, plus 1/2 the rate of Hampton Sand Springs - Keystone Lake Motel Anyone ever stay there?

Clois Harlan 07-13-2011 09:18 AM

Tim,
I think that is where James Yales stays when he is in town.

I was told transponders would be available, I will check with Scott on Monday when I deliver my final payment.

STL Mark 07-13-2011 04:30 PM

For anyone that knows, how do you prepare yourself to drive with a helmet on in a really hot car with outside temps at 106? Any tips? I know to drink plenty of water/gatorade and all, but wondered if a towel soaked in ice water is helpful? I remember Richard Petty used to have a towel in his mouth on really hot days, not sure I could pull that off in an open cockpit car. Of course, I could always just ride with Clois, he has A/C :D

SSSammy 08-02-2011 03:26 PM

You'll be better off in the open car, Tim. There is no A/C allowed on the track due to condensate dripping. White helmet is suggested :) Alternate gatorade and water. Lots of straight gatorade is not good. I'm sure we'll invent some ways to cool off. One thing about a 106 deg breeze .. it won't cool you off .. it just makes you hotter

Your fire suit will be so wet from your sweat you will feel much cooler. It was 140 in the gt40 last time I was at Hallet! I think I lost 8 pounds that weekend.
