Oil Cooler Blunder Warning!
For those that might be about to install an oil cooler, USE the fittings that the manufacturer recommends and be extremely careful not to over torque them. I just trashed a brand new 180.00 Steeda Oil Cooler by using the incorrect fittings. I pulled the fittings that came on the busted oil cooler that was installed in the Ironman Kirkham and did not even think twice before installing them into the brand new oil cooler. One stripped out and both ate into the fins inside of the cooler. Im usually good about paying attention to this sort of thing, but i guess i have been a lacking on sleep lately. Frickin, frackin,.......

Arnt they AN fittings? those should be standard.

The problem is that the old fittings are too long, which caused them to hit the fins inside of the cooler. Steeda recommends o ring fittings, but i was in too big of a hurry to read that until after i had trashed the cooler. It's possible i can salvage it, i just need to have it flow tested and then, if it tests ok, i can have a new fitting tig welded to the side with the stripped threads.

OMG......its been 25 years but lets just say i always duct tape the hole of my intake and distributor the second i remove carbs or the distributor.......
