Front end squeeks and grinds

Help with my backdraft. The front end was squeeking and grinding when I pulled into a driveway. I was told by Backdraft that it was my coilover springs that were bad. I replaced my front coilovers because when I turned up the adjusting nut to 4" above the bottom thread it collaped the coil, so Backdraft sent me new springs. I installed them but still had to turn the nut up 4" to get 2 fingers between the tire and the wheel well. They worked fine for about 10 days. On Wednesday I drove up the coast 200 miles, when I stopped to get gas the noise was back. At my destination I jacked up the car and adjusted the coilover springs so there was 3" between the nut and the bottom thread. This gave me almost 1 finger from tire to fender. The coils were open. There was no noise on the way home but the steering was very stiff and hard to turn. When I got home I pulled into my driveway and scraped my pan, plus there was some sqeeking as I pulled in. Anybody have any ideas, I am lost:CRY:
