100 greatest cars of all time: Where does the Cobra rank?

Edmunds' Inside Line has just published an article by automotive journalist John Pearley Huffman entitled, "The 100 greatest cars of all time."

The 260/289 and 427 Cobras are on the list, but I'm not sure I agree with where it falls and which cars are ahead of it.

What do you guys think? Comments?

It's a matter of opinion.

Morons have opinions.

The author is a moron.

fordracing65 08-16-2011 07:45 PM

It should be 1, 2, and 3 on the list.

tkb289 08-16-2011 08:08 PM

The 260/289 and 427 should be at least in the top 10, not ranked in the 50's ... and the GT40 at number 71  ... it's top 10 car as well :)

my .02

Such a vague question. I never imagined the bug being #4. And how does a brand new Nissan Leaf even make the list? It beat out the Aston Martin DB5!

:eek:The Chevy Vega was Motor Trend car of the year, two years in a row!
OOPS only one year, I remembered two.

Motor Trend Cars of the Year Complete Winners List

He did write this,

"Still, sales success doesn't matter here, but greatness does come in batches. So these are production vehicles. No one-offs like the Batmobile or Don "The Snake" Prudhomme's Hot Wheels Funny Car. And there are no flying cars either, unless you count the 1965 Shelby Cobra 427."

The GT-R was ahead of the 917 & The Cobra? Foolish.

This list is full of darts thrown at a dart board. Was this a joke?

That is 4 minutes of my life I won't get back!

He's clearly proved he knows little about either!

"So it's a biased list in favor of cars that enthusiasts love, but it also acknowledges those everyday cars that have shaped our lives."

it states it is biased. Everyday fits the 64 bug, 32 Ford fits the description.
Take it for what is worth, a piece written but need not to be offensive.

#38 2004 Toyota Prius, you gotta be joking how does that beat out the AC Cobra and GT40,
hang on maybe it does coz it appeals to all the treehuggers and greenies out there, I reckon the author doesn't know the definition of the word "Greatest".

mreid 08-17-2011 06:17 AM

Me thinks this site may be just slightly biased!

However, I agree, the author is an idiot and should be banned from writing and driving.

Have always felt these surveys were biased,no matter how they arrive at the outcome.Of course we all have our own all time favorite cars, mine will never change much. The 427 AC Cobra will always top the list on this ranch,if only to look at it.When planning my build then doing it,the long term goal was to satisfy my need for speed sitting behind the wheel of a car I have always wanted.

Yes the Author is a Pinhead - many facts are wrong.

Like with the Mini Cooper - Quote" Sir Alec Issigonis built his little runabout with a transverse engine and front-wheel drive. Fifty years later we realize he created the blueprint for virtually all mainstream modern cars."
He did not create the transverse engine setup, it was around since 1931 DKW did that in their production cars. Saab, Borgward Hansa BMW used that after WW2 -- it became more popular 1959 with the Mini

...and what about 52. 427??
