CSX for Sale, Hemmings - Might be old news

This showed up this morning on my Hemmings page - Red CSX (no number published), just short of a million. Might be old news to some.

Hope the link works, looks funny.

Nice to see a "street" 427 that hasn't been made into a pseudo SC. The price may be a reach in this economy. Damn, I wish I had held on to 3121!

B.M.B.C 08-18-2011 02:37 PM

Is that a 427 or 428 engined car???

SunDude 08-18-2011 02:50 PM

CSX3282

Originally a 428 car.

One of a handful of original coil-sprung Cobras in Canada.

Original battery?

How good is that going to be?

That's like including the original strings on a vintage Martin D-28!!

Cheers from Dugly

The more original parts that come with an original Cobra the better. That doesn't mean the battery is still being used. ;)

You wouldn't want to drive on those Blue Dots either, but they're nice to have.

This is a very nice Cobra.

I see what you mean.....if the car is sitting in a museum, not to be run on a daily basis, then the dead battery is just fine, it makes the car more "period correct" even if it won't fire up the car.

The Blue Dots, if they hold air, would serve the same purpose.

I didn't think of it that way....the analogy to leaving the original guitar strings on an old Martin was flawed....there's NO benefit to doing that!

Cheers from Dugly

Who said the battery will not 'fire' the car?
By the way, this car does not sit in a museum. It is driven regularly. It joined 29 other original Cobras in Wyoming last year for a 1000 mile tour through Montana, Idaho and Wyoming.

Hi guys. the battery is actually a 45 year old NOS battery that has never had acid in it. The tires are also 45 years old, very skinny, and very hard. i have modern tires for driving. We did try driving on the old tires once. We had to pull off the road because we were laughing so hard i thought we were going to crash. Earl

mickmate 08-24-2011 07:51 PM

Hey Earl what was so funny the lack of traction? Glad you stopped in over here.

CSX3282 08-25-2011 01:04 PM

traction

Every time i even touched the gas, the tires would spin. It was like driving on a skating rink. The hard rubber would make a horrible squealing sound and my brother would yell "that's a hundred bucks!" He kept yelling that until we were both laughing so hard i couldn't drive anymore. We went home and took the tires off. My father was the ONLY man to ever sell a new 427 Cobra in Canada. A few years back he told me he was driving it one day in 1966 in downtown Calgary and ground looped the car several times in a very busy intersection and only with dumb luck did he not hit anything. He stalled the car and sat there shaking so bad he couldn't drive anymore. He was right in front of the GM dealer (wouldn't you know it) and he knew the sales manager. The guy came running out and helped dad get off the street. Dad eventually drove the car back to Metro Ford and never touched it again. The eventual buyer of that car wrecked it less than 6 months after buying it. Earl
