Possible weight savings?
Anyone delete their doors off of their Cobra? Without the door frame, latches, handles, hinges, etc, (but with an added steel bar across the top, and the door skin), there could be considerable weight savings. AND, with these cars as low as they are, stepping over the "door" shouldnt be a problem for many Cobra owners.
It might even clean up the side view of the Cobra. |
My doors have a steel frame/intrusion bar and with inner skin, upholstery and hardware each weighs about 20 lbs. With the added bar and 'glassing in the door skin, you'd save what - maybe 10 lbs total?
Heck, just leave the car as is and jump over the door anyway - you'll lose more than that over time from the exercise alone. Plus, you'll retain the option of toting female companions in the passenger seat if the need (or opportunity) ever presents itself. For a full fledged track car with no passenger seat it may be worth doing. |
If I'm really that worried about the car weight, I will go on a diet. Not like it would hurt me any.
