Pilot Bearing Question
I've read the previous threads on this topic but still can't seem to find my answer.
My current roller pilot bearing is bad in my FE 428. I pulled it out and measured the following: OD - 1.25" ID - .669" (Tremmec 3550) Depth - .75" I also noticed that there is an outer recess that measures roughly 1.83". So my guess is that two different OD bearings can be used? Providing of course that I get my .669" ID. To keep it simple, I'd prefer to replace what I pulled out, but it seems harder than I expected. Any suggestions? http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/pict...550204&thumb=1 http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/pict...550204&thumb=1 |
The larger pocket is for a bushing...which is what I would go back with.

Mike, over on the FE forum bushings tend to beat bearings by about 4 to 1. Just soak it oil overnight and forget it.

Second the bushing. I found a bronze one at O'Reillys under the HD listing for National. However, it doesn't appear to be oil impregnated. But I'll use it over the iron (magnetic) one that is usually sold. Stick it in the coldest freezer you have overnight and tap it into the crank.

So the question now is where do I get the bushing?
Needs to be either the larger OD of 1.83" or the smaller OD of 1.25". And it must have the ID of .669" to fit the Tremmec 3550. |
I've got a stack of them here, or you can run down to Autozone, Advance Auto, OReillys, etc., and get one. A bushing will fit the larger diameter. The Tremec pilot end is the same diameter as a Toploader.
