Doug (767jockey) and I were there for the full three days and had a great time.
It was a cracking weekend with some terrific racing. :3DSMILE: The RAC TT race was spectacular and then it poured with rain and got even better. Watching the Coupe snake (no pun intended) its way along the start straight, struggling for grip was brilliant.
The fly-past of 10 Spitfires was also very special.

Going to Goodwood is on my "must-do" list. Someday I'll make it there!

On Sept. 27 at 2000 hrs Zulu time, ITV4 will be featuring the Goodwood Revival. For us colonials, we'll need to go to Expat Shield. to get a player that will let us watch online. This is definitely on the bucket list.

Nice pics. I cam imagine having that big FE Galaxie charging through the heard of smaller cars was a bit intimidating.

It might have been, had that been the case, but the smaller cars, especially the Minis were all over the big Fords like a rash. The Galaxies would start to pull away on the straights, but any lost ground was very quickly made up again by the Minis at the next corner.

Aside from the weather at this specific time; what is there a reason they all run a hard top? They also do not utilize or have the under door side exhaust as we know it??? Haven't heard that explained?

They are required to race with tops on.

I don't believe that to be the case because there were a couple racing without hardtops at Le Mans. I assumed it to be simply because they were faster with a roof i.e. better aerodynamics.

All the Cobras racing at Goodwood were 289s, which didn't originally have the fully exposed side pipes of the 427 Cobras.
I don't ever recall seeing a 427 Cobra in classic racing, which I attributed to them not getting FIA homologation in period, although I have seen 427 Cobras with FIA HTP papers.

The Cobras were all required to run with hardtops.
COB 6008 (131HYN) used side-pipes
Bill Murray entered the Revival a few years back with a 427 and was forced to run in the prototype race (Whitsun Trophy) matched against Lola T70s and GT40s etc. due to period homologation. The 427 was homologated by the FIA in 1966 as a prototype, not a GT car due to the required numbers of cars not having been built. The 427 is of course outclassed in that category but in Bill's case, it was not for the want of trying!! He came home 13th overall, but I've never seen a 427 driven so hard.

Back to the side pipes. I realize all the cars were 289's. No mystery here as they were the cars that won all the races back in the day. I think the reason for lack of FIA sidepipes is current engineering trends are usings much longer and larger diameter primary tubes which dictates undercar routing for the most part. The OEM FIA headers/collectors were very poor for torque. The primaries were only about 14" long (or less).

If you're not in the UK and would like to watch the ITV4 coverage of the Goodwood Revival, go here to download the player that will give you a UK IP:
Expat Shield then enter this for a url to see the video: Video - ITV Player Sure, it's a bit of a pain, but if you love to watch Cobras racing (they will be in part 3 and 4), you'll love this.
