Heim joint lube
What is the best stuff to lubricate heim joints on the suspension and shift linkage? I am using Super Lube spray, anything better?

nothing-- lube will attract dust, dirt and other contaminates.
If its binding or grating, replace. I use joints with teflon liners and Seals-it washers or boots for control arms, tend to be more forgiving. http://www.kartek.com/Product/Fabric.../Dustboots.jpg http://www.midwestcontrol.com/images...9947-61059.jpg |
Be careful when using a lube. We race sprint cars and don't lube other than when cleaning or right before the race with WD-40 or the like. Dirt and debris will stick to the lube/grease and grind away the seal (if yours has them) or joint. The rubber seal type is good when new, but they will dry out and crack, which makes the situation worse by holding water and debris. I use WD-40 every couple of months.
I use heims from Rod End Supply, for both my cobra and sprint and they work great. I first used Speedway Motors and they sucked, only lasting 2 years. (cheap Chinese crap) This company does have special grease that does not get hot and fall off the surface. I use their heims that the "self lubricated" pictured below. Call Bob Douglas and tell him I sent you. I use Lock-Ease, graphited lock lubricant. As said above, you don't really want to use something wet, as that only attracts dirt. And you don't really want to get in there every week with WD-40.
Lock-Ease goes on wet, and gets the graphite down into the joint. Then the base fluid evaporates, and leaves the dry graphitye lubricant behind. Amazon.com: AGS LE5 Lock Ease: Automotive |
