Default 438ci Windsor EFI Pump Fuel 640hp Street Engine

Thought you guys would enjoy an engine that was on the dyno yesterday. This engine is an all aluminum 438ci street engine that pumped out 641hp and 595 ft/lbs torque on premium pump fuel from our Fuel Station down the street. This engine made over 500 ft/lbs torque as low as 2800 RPMs, We used: Dart aluminum block, AFR KC CNC 205 heads, Eagle rotating assembly, KC Custom mild street solid roller camshaft w/ upgraded solid roller lifters for endurance, and TWM stack EFI w/ Fast XFI 2.0 electronic fuel injection. This made a awsome little package, starts up as soon as you kit the ignition switch, idles at 800 RPMs and runs great, and is a real head turner at 7K + rpm it is capable of turning. The price for this complete engine was $22,295, I could do this same engine in a cast iron Dart block for $20,199. I will get dyno sheets scanned and added asap.

Sweet engine, awesome numbers, its hard to justify an Fe with numbers like that, I guess it comes down to looks.

My Keith Craft all alumunim 496 FE made 681HP. Also has solid roller....

Nice dyno sheet, tq, rules the world when an FE is involved with a solid cam, the only advantage the windsor has is weight and price, but the FE looks so cool.

Yes both are very nice engine and Gary's is carbureted. The stack injection might have made a little more power and would have made more torque but quite a bit more money.
You would use a bigger throttle body on the FE enigne because it is bigger. TWM said that we had pretty maxed out the ones on the small block at that power level. The FE engine would have a much broader torque and power band. The small block is lighter and would rev a little quicker maybe.
This is why we do both engines. The torque the FE makes down low is pretty harry in the car for sure. I think either one would be enough for most people.

I will try to get the specs and dyno sheets posted on a FE we just finished with the stack injection. Went into a Kirkham that Rob at C&S Performance help do the final tuning on in the car. He had it on the Chassi dyno and it made right at 550HP and about the same torque at the rear tires with a very camshaft. This car runs great and pulls all the way down the 1800 rpm in high gear and idles at about 800 rpms as well.

Was it a solid roller cam, how much difference does a hydraulic roller give up on hp over the solid cam seeing they would be close to the same specs.

Keith built me a 427 small block back in 2003 that made 638HP/610ft/tk at the crank, I had in a Superformance. The engine was cast iron, aluminum heads, carb and a solid roller. I love small blocks the way they spin up with a solid roller and perform on the street (had several) and was very hesitate about doing an FE. After talking to Keith, he made my all aluminum 496 FE spin up the same way with the solid roller he selected, single plane intake to kill some of the tork down low and all the head work etc Keith does. I'm now equally impressed with the FE as I was the small block stroker, so as Keith said, "He does both engines so it just depends on what you want and budget. I love the look of some of these new fuel injection systems like this one and the 8 stack but in years past it appears many had problems with them but looks like they got it down now. Same thing happened to the auto companies when they came out with fuel injection in the 80s...

Standard Corrected Power is what is used mostly by Superflow. You have the temp, altitude, humidity and barimetric pressure which are the most important. They will vary some from winter to summer and the location of the dyno. This is why you have to have a correction factor. The SuperFlow seams to work pretty well and they quote HP numbers at sea level, 60 degrees and low humidity. Nice conditions. In the summer the engine might make 500 HP because if it is 100 degrees but when it is corrected to the standard it would have made about 600HP. I have also had a great day that was 50 degrees, the air checked 500 below sea level and no humiduty and an engine would make about 25 more HP thyan a standard correction day. These are the days you want when setting national records.
