Those Edelbrock triangle foam filters claim 1000cfm. Does anyone have any positive information on this. Maybe use some flame retardant spray.
Get this, they also said that on a 14 x 3 round red gauze filter, the difference between the extreme top and a capped top is 200cfm

I have an Edelbrock 1000cfm....:threw the foam away and used ac filter from home depot.and also used the same in the scoop and brake ducts......no more stones on the intake. No restriction whatsoever. Been there for at least 5 years.

Chanmadd, real nice idea, mind if I borrow it:3DSMILE:

Hotfingers , the xtreme top, I can see where it would be good on a dyno with air going straight down on the air cleaner but in a driving situation with air going across the top, I have heard that it hurts flow. What do you think? Have you any data on that.

Lou, the only thing I can add, is that at the track I run the same times, with or without an air filter. After seeing that, I don't bother taking the filter off when at the track. BTW that's an 11 inch filter.

Mine is a 9 inch by 2.5 or 2.75 thick K & N, flat base with an Xtream top. No difference in the chassis dyno with it on vs off. Love it!
Updated my original post..

I just remembered that I cut about an inch off the bottom of the filter base to clear the hood.
That is why I had to replace the foam with a more open filter material, because at high Rpm the foam does not pass enough air and gets sucked into the carb. I used the blue home filter stuff from home depot , with trepidation at first, but as I said its been on there for a long time. Now I also know that this filter material is not as good at filtering as a k&n but with the extra in the scoop there are no stones coming in the scoop.
