Body Manufacture??

I bought my Cobra from a dealer on the East Coast about a year ago and have been trying to find out who manufactured the Body (or even the whole car) since that time. I have checked out the popular manufactures and the biggest difference I can find is the placement of the Gas Filler - it's very unique. The filler is not on the fender but on the rear deck. Anybody have any ideas? I'll try to get some photos uploaded. Thanks!

Is it a 289 or a 427 body? Standard location of the fuel filler for a 289 is on the rear deck. If it's a 427 body, Classic Motor Carriages / Street Beasts puts the fuel filler on the rear deck.

I guess that's another good question. It has a 302 Ford in it so you'd assume it's a 289 Body but I do not know. It was built in the early 1990's. Thanks!

It's a 427 body style..........

Pictures of the frame under the hood and rear end would help also.......

What does that emblem say on the drivers side fender well? Could be something unless it's one of those fake CSX badges.

Hood scoop shape, placement of the fuel filler and the deep "lip" around the rear cockpit cowling indicate that its probably a CMC (Classic Motor Carriages) car. The company had a colorful history, shut down, reborn as Street Beasts and has now gone defunct again.

Shady business practices including pressure sales tactics, backorder/incomplete delivery nightmares and accusations of outright dishonesty followed the company throughout its many lives and various incarnations.

The company's antics have (perhaps unfairly) led to the cars themselves enjoying a generally crappy reputation among Cobra enthusiasts, but those intrepid souls who managed to complete their cars in spite of the manufacturer seem happy with their builds. Some of them right here on Club Cobra vigorously defend them against all insinuations of poor quality and even go as far as offering to stack them up against Cobras from any other manufacturer. Like any owner assembled/finished component car, what matters most is how much attention to detail and quality was paid by the man who built the car.

Do some separate searches here on CMC, Classic Motor Carriages and Street Beasts.

Thanks for all the replies and information. I think I have more to go on now. I believe the original owner has passed away and the dealer I bought her from got her from a surviving member of the family. He had very little info to go on except that she was professionally built. She was basically in good shape but needed a lot of updating and a few minor repairs.

She does have a couple of those fake Shelby VIN Plates but it is a good place for the VIN Number. She is registered as a 1965 Ford 2 Door and is scary fast. Corners like a champ and is just plain fun fun fun!
