Shelby American Auction

I knew this man's son and family. I had been invited to see his collection a couple times but never got the opportunity and the family has since moved to Mississippi. Here's a chance to own CSX4774. Fiberglass body but has an FE! Also a few other interesting vehicles up for auction.

Well, did I miss something? Maybe CCX4774 but definitely not a CSX 4774. There's a 351 Cleavland in the engine bay too. Hey, to each there own but if that's a CSX I've got some beach front property...

Slither 01-17-2012 02:35 PM

For some wild reason, the Cobra in this collection just doesn't look like a Shelby CSX Series Cobra to me!

FIA-ERA 01-17-2012 02:46 PM

Ah, come on Slither, what do you know :). All the labels really crack me up. The plaques on the engine, the dash, the switches, and even the "Caution Hot Pipes" below the door. Reminds me of my Grandfathers old apartment. He had everything labeled. salt, pepper, sugar, marshmallows, etc.

Cashburn 01-17-2012 03:03 PM

Holy smokes! How embarrassing for Mecum, I mean they handle some of the top cars and this is a CSX?

Slither 01-17-2012 04:09 PM

Maybe it was the wheels? :p

BigRed427 01-17-2012 04:37 PM

The wheels?
Don't forget the automatic transmission, big chrome brake pedal, Corvette steering wheel, CD player, and the dash/gauges.
Perfect.

Well, I'm not afraid to throw a red flag on the play and ask for an official review of the tape. I sent this via Mecum's web site:

Hi,

Can you please verify that the car listed here:

1966 Shelby Cobra Roadster for sale by Mecum Auction

is really a Shelby CSX 4000 series car? There is very little resemblance to a genuine CSX 4000/6000 series car and would really like to hope that the claim that it is CSX4774 is a typographical error. I owned one myself and there are too many wrong details - like the orientation of the roll bar (a Cobra 427 would anchor the roll bar in the trunk, and a 289 car would be in the front of the passenger foot well, but none have ever anchored it in the area of the transmission tunnel. Other details are the dash and gauges, interior trim like inside doors and transmission tunnel, and the battery (which would be 2x6V behind the passenger seat or a 12V in the trunk.

I would strongly encourage you to verify the claim that this is a Shelby Continuation Cobra.

Thanks

Good job twobjshelbys! :3DSMILE:

digginfool 01-17-2012 05:13 PM

I got this email from Mecum while I was at work today and posted it up. The wheels struck me as odd when I first looked at it but now that I really look at it, the car doesn't look like much at all. My BDR is a much better representation, even with the Windsor (although the 48 IDAs don't hurt). My bad on the FE. Just the same, there's some pretty interesting vehicles in this collection.

Most auction houses will tell you they rely on the sellers representation and it is up to the bidder to assure themselves that they are buying what they think they are.

A few years back a local "classic" auction had a "GT350 R Model" consigned. Asisde from the very poor attempt at making an "R", it had a "C" code Ford VIN from Dearborn (and if you don't know what is wrong with that, don't bid on any GT350s!) plus over 20 other things we spotted witout a lot of effort (the really bogus Shelby VIN tag with a Dymo label number was one clue...) I called the auction sponsor who I knew. He said "Hey, I'm only representing what the seller says".

Point? Buyer beware.............

racco 01-17-2012 06:16 PM

thats no ccx

Racer_X 01-17-2012 08:07 PM

Not only is it not a CSX, it's a 351M or 400M, not a 351C.
All the stickers should add a few HP though.

joyridin' 01-19-2012 11:31 AM

That is either a StreetBeast or CMC.

twobjshelbys 01-26-2012 12:27 PM

Well, I don't know if it was my note to them, but the description has been changed. It is now just "Lot U112 1966 Shelby Cobra Replica" with no mention of CSX4774...

Dennis O'Shea 01-26-2012 01:49 PM

I find the Baby Blue Plug Wires And the Baby Blue wire cover's are stunning and they go so well with the black and gold car what a PIMP MOBILE I hope that it goes off at no reserve Mecum should pay some one to buy it

FUNFER2 01-26-2012 04:16 PM

The height of the rear and the ugly blue engine hose's are a turn off

Either that Cobra has air shocks or it's an FFR.
